During Jehoiakim's reign, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him.

He brought them all to Babylon. 19 They burned the house of God, tore down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire, destroying all its valuable articles. 20 He exiled to Babylon the remnant who survived the sword, and they became servants to him and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21 This happened to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its sabbaths. All the time of its desolation it rested, to fulfill seventy years.
