  • Jer 26:11-24 : 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, 'This man deserves the death sentence, for he has prophesied against this city as you have heard with your own ears.' 12 But Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people, 'The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard.' 13 'Now, therefore, amend your ways and your deeds, and obey the voice of the LORD your God. Then the LORD will relent concerning the disaster that He has pronounced against you.' 14 'But as for me, I am in your hands; do with me whatever you think is good and right in your eyes.' 15 But you should certainly know that if you put me to death, you are bringing innocent blood upon yourselves, this city, and its inhabitants, for truly the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing. 16 Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and prophets, 'This man does not deserve the death penalty, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.' 17 And some of the elders of the land stood up and spoke to the whole assembly of the people, saying: 18 'Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and said to all the people of Judah, “This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a pile of ruins, and the temple mount will become overgrown with thickets.”' 19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the LORD and plead for His favor? And the LORD relented concerning the disaster that He pronounced against them. But we are about to bring a terrible disaster upon ourselves! 20 Now there was another man who prophesied in the name of the LORD, Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and this land in words exactly like those of Jeremiah. 21 When King Jehoiakim, all his mighty men, and all the officials heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But Uriah heard about it, and he was afraid, so he fled and went to Egypt. 22 Then King Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: Elnathan son of Achbor and some others went with him. 23 They brought Uriah out of Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him struck down with the sword and threw his body into the burial place of the common people. 24 Nevertheless, Ahikam son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.
  • Jer 29:25-32 : 25 This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying: 26 The LORD has appointed you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to be in charge of the house of the LORD for every madman who acts as a prophet, and you should put such a person in the stocks and neck-irons. 27 Now why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who has been prophesying to you? 28 For he has sent us to Babylon saying, 'The exile will be long. Build houses and settle down, plant gardens and eat their produce.' 29 Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet. 30 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying: 31 Send this message to all the exiles: This is what the LORD says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite—Shemaiah has prophesied to you though I did not send him, and he has made you trust in a lie. 32 Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. He will not have anyone dwelling among this people, nor will he see the good that I will do for my people, declares the LORD, because he has spoken rebellion against the LORD.
  • Jer 11:19 : 19 I was like a gentle lamb being led to the slaughter. I did not realize they had plotted against me, saying, ‘Let us destroy the tree with its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will never be remembered again.’
  • Jer 15:10-21 : 10 Woe to me, my mother, that you gave birth to me—a man of strife and contention to the whole land! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me. 11 The LORD said, 'Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will make your enemies plead with you in times of trouble and distress.' 12 Can iron break iron from the north, or bronze? 13 Your wealth and your treasures I will give as plunder, without price, because of all your sins throughout your territory. 14 I will make your enemies pass into a land you do not know, for a fire is kindled in My anger, and it will burn against you. 15 You know, LORD; remember me and attend to me. Avenge me against my persecutors. Do not take me away in the prolonging of Your anger; know that I bear reproach for Your sake. 16 Your words were found, and I ate them. Your word became to me the joy and delight of my heart, for I am called by Your name, LORD God of Hosts. 17 I did not sit in the company of revelers nor did I rejoice. Because of Your hand, I sat alone, for You have filled me with indignation. 18 Why has my pain become perpetual, and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will You indeed be to me like a deceptive stream, waters that are unreliable? 19 Therefore this is what the LORD says: 'If you return, then I will restore you; you will stand before Me. If you extract the precious from the worthless, you will be My spokesman. They must turn to you, but you must not turn to them.' 20 I will make you a fortified bronze wall to these people. They will fight against you but will not prevail over you, for I am with you to save you and deliver you,' declares the LORD. 21 'I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the violent.'
  • Jer 20:1-6 : 1 When Pashhur, the son of Immer, the priest and officer in charge at the temple of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things, 2 he had Jeremiah the prophet beaten and put in the stocks at the Upper Gate of Benjamin in the temple of the LORD. 3 The next day, when Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not called your name Pashhur, but rather Terror on Every Side. 4 For this is what the LORD says: 'I am going to make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies while you watch, and I will hand all Judah over to the king of Babylon, who will take them captive to Babylon or kill them by the sword. 5 I will deliver all the wealth of this city, all its products, all its valuable possessions, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hands of their enemies. They will plunder them, take them, and carry them off to Babylon.' 6 And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into exile. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have falsely prophesied.

  • Jer 37:11-21 : 11 When the Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem because of Pharaoh's army, 12 Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his share of property among the people. 13 But when he reached the Benjamin Gate, a captain of the guard named Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, was there. He arrested Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "You are deserting to the Chaldeans!" 14 Jeremiah replied, "That is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldeans." But Irijah would not listen to him. Instead, he seized Jeremiah and brought him to the officials. 15 The officials were furious with Jeremiah, and they beat him and put him in prison, in the house of Jonathan the scribe, which had been made into a prison. 16 When Jeremiah was put into the dungeon and the cells, he remained there for many days. 17 Then King Zedekiah sent for him and secretly questioned him in his palace, saying, "Is there any word from the LORD?" Jeremiah replied, "There is. You will be handed over to the king of Babylon." 18 Then Jeremiah asked King Zedekiah, "What crime have I committed against you, your officials, or this people, to justify putting me in prison? 19 Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Babylon will not come against you or this land'? 20 Now please hear me, my lord the king. Let my plea come before you: Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there. 21 So King Zedekiah commanded that Jeremiah be placed in the courtyard of the guard and given a loaf of bread daily from the bakers' street until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard.
  • Jer 38:6-9 : 6 So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in the courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah by ropes. There was no water in the cistern, only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud. 7 Now Ebed-Melech, a Cushite, an official in the royal palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. While the king was sitting at the Benjamin Gate, 8 Ebed-Melech went out of the palace and said to the king, 9 "My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have thrown him into a cistern, where he will die from hunger, since there is no longer any bread in the city." 10 The king commanded Ebed-Melech the Cushite, "Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies." 11 So Ebed-Melech took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down to Jeremiah in the cistern with ropes. 12 Ebed-Melech the Cushite said to Jeremiah, "Put these worn-out rags and clothes under your arms to pad the ropes." Jeremiah did so, 13 and they pulled Jeremiah up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guard.
