- Mic 3:8-9 : 8 But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin. 9 Hear this, leaders of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, you who despise justice and twist all that is right: 10 You build Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with iniquity. 11 Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for silver. Yet they lean on the LORD, saying, 'Is not the LORD among us? No disaster will come upon us.' 12 Therefore because of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the temple will become a high place overgrown with thickets.
- Nah 1:1-3 : 1 This is a pronouncement concerning Nineveh, the book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. 2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and reserves wrath for his enemies. 3 The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; he will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
- 1 Kgs 21:18-24 : 18 'Get up and go down to meet Ahab, king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. 19 Speak to him and say, “Thus says the LORD: Have you murdered and also taken possession?” Then say to him, “Thus says the LORD: In the place where the dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, the dogs will also lick up your blood—yes, yours.”' 20 Ahab said to Elijah, 'So, have you found me, my enemy?' 'I have found you,' he answered, 'because you have devoted yourself to doing evil in the eyes of the LORD.' 21 'This is what the LORD says: I am bringing disaster on you. I will sweep away your descendants and cut off every male in your household, both slave and free, in Israel. 22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked My anger and have caused Israel to sin.' 23 And concerning Jezebel, the LORD also says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.' 24 'Anyone who belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and anyone who dies in the field, the birds of the heavens will eat.'
- 1 Kgs 22:8 : 8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, only bad. His name is Micaiah son of Imlah.' Jehoshaphat replied, 'The king should not say such a thing.'
- Isa 5:1-8 : 1 Let me sing now for my beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill. 2 He dug it and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a tower in its center and also carved out a winepress in it. He hoped it would produce good grapes, but it yielded only wild ones. 3 Now then, you inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4 What more could I have done for my vineyard than I have already done? Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes, did it yield only wild ones? 5 Now let me tell you what I am about to do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6 I will make it a wasteland; it will neither be pruned nor hoed, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will also command the clouds not to rain on it. 7 For the vineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are the planting of His delight. He expected justice but saw bloodshed; He expected righteousness but heard cries of distress. 8 Woe to those who add house to house and join field to field until there is no room, and you live alone in the midst of the land.
- Isa 6:9-9 : 9 And He said, "Go, and say to this people: ‘Keep listening, but do not understand; keep looking, but do not perceive.’ 10 Make the hearts of this people dull, their ears heavy, and their eyes blind; otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back and be healed." 11 Then I said, "For how long, Lord?" And He replied, "Until cities lie ruined without inhabitants, houses are unoccupied, and the land is desolate and devastated. 12 The LORD will drive the people far away, and the abandonment in the land will be great.
- Isa 13:18 : 18 Their bows will strike down the young men; they will show no mercy to the offspring of the womb, nor will they pity children.
- Isa 24:1-9 : 1 Behold, the Lord lays the earth waste, devastates it, distorts its surface, and scatters its inhabitants. 2 It will be the same for the people as for the priest, the servant as for his master, the maid as for her mistress, the buyer as for the seller, the lender as for the borrower, the creditor as for the debtor. 3 The earth will be utterly laid waste and completely plundered, for the Lord has spoken this word. 4 The earth mourns and withers; the world fades and withers; the exalted of the earth languish. 5 The earth is defiled by its inhabitants, for they have transgressed laws, violated statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants bear the guilt. Therefore, the earth’s inhabitants are burned, and few people are left. 7 The new wine dries up, the vine withers, and all the merry-hearted groan. 8 The joy of tambourines ceases, the noise of revelers stops, and the joyful sound of the harp is silenced. 9 They no longer drink wine with song; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it. 10 The city of chaos is shattered; every house is shut up so no one may enter. 11 In the streets, there is an outcry over the wine; all joy turns dark, and the gladness of the earth departs. 12 Only desolation is left in the city; the gate is battered into ruins. 13 So it will be in the midst of the earth among the nations, like the shaking of an olive tree, as gleanings after the grape harvest is over. 14 They raise their voices, they sing for joy; from the west they shout over the majesty of the Lord. 15 Therefore, glorify the Lord in the east, and in the coastlands of the sea glorify the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. 16 From the ends of the earth, we hear songs: 'Glory to the Righteous One.' But I said, 'I perish, I perish, woe to me! The treacherous betray, with treachery the treacherous betray.' 17 Terror, pit, and snare confront you, O inhabitant of the earth. 18 Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into the pit, and whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare; for the floodgates of the heavens are opened, and the foundations of the earth shake. 19 The earth is utterly broken, the earth is split apart, the earth is violently shaken. 20 The earth staggers like a drunkard, it sways like a hut; its transgression lies heavy upon it, and it falls, never to rise again. 21 On that day, the Lord will punish the host of the heavens above and the kings of the earth below. 22 They will be gathered together like prisoners in a pit; they will be shut in a dungeon, and after many days they will be punished. 23 Then the moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed, for the Lord of Hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His elders will be His glory.
- Joel 1:2-9 : 2 Hear this, you elders, and listen, all you inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this happened in your days or in the days of your ancestors? 3 Tell it to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation. 4 What the cutting locust left, the swarming locust has eaten; what the swarming locust left, the hopping locust has eaten; and what the hopping locust left, the destroying locust has eaten. 5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! Wail, all you wine drinkers, because of the fresh wine, for it is cut off from your mouth. 6 For a nation has invaded my land, strong and without number. Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the fangs of a lioness. 7 It has laid waste my vine and ruined my fig tree. It has stripped off their bark and thrown it away; their branches are made white. 8 Mourn like a young woman dressed in sackcloth, grieving for the husband of her youth. 9 Grain offerings and drink offerings are cut off from the house of the Lord. The priests, the ministers of the Lord, mourn. 10 The fields are devastated, and the ground mourns, because the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, and the olive oil fails. 11 Be ashamed, you farmers; wail, you vinekeepers, for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished. 12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree withers; the pomegranate, the palm, and the apple tree—all the trees of the field are dried up. Indeed, joy has withered away from the people. 13 Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests; wail, you ministers of the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister to my God, for grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God. 14 Declare a holy fast; proclaim a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. 15 Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. 16 Isn’t the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17 The seeds shrivel beneath their clods, the storehouses are desolate, the granaries are broken down, for the grain has dried up. 18 How the cattle groan! The herds of livestock wander in confusion because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering. 19 To you, Lord, I call, for fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and flames have burned all the trees of the field. 20 Even the wild animals pant for you; the streams of water have dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
- Joel 3:1-9 : 1 For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem. 2 I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will enter into judgment with them concerning my people and my inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and they have divided up my land. 3 They cast lots for my people; they traded a boy for a prostitute and sold a girl for wine, which they drank. 4 Now, what have you against me, Tyre and Sidon and all the regions of Philistia? Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are repaying me, I will swiftly and speedily return your recompense upon your own heads. 5 For you took my silver and my gold and carried my precious treasures into your temples. 6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, removing them far from their own territory. 7 Behold, I am going to arouse them from the place where you sold them, and I will return your recompense upon your own heads. 8 I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, a distant nation. The LORD has spoken. 9 Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Arouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men draw near and advance. 10 Hammer your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak say, ‘I am strong!’ 11 Hasten and come, all you nations from every side, and gather yourselves there. Bring down, LORD, your mighty ones.
- Lev 26:14-46 : 14 But if you will not listen to me and will not carry out all these commandments, 15 and if you reject my statutes and if your soul loathes my judgments so that you do not carry out all my commandments and thus break my covenant, 16 I, in turn, will do this to you: I will bring sudden terror upon you, wasting diseases and fever that destroy your eyes and drain your strength. You will plant your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it. 17 I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is chasing you. 18 If after all this you still do not listen to me, I will punish you seven times over for your sins. 19 I will break your stubborn pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze. 20 Your strength will be spent in vain, because your land will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit. 21 If you continue to walk contrary to me and are unwilling to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over as your sins deserve. 22 I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted. 23 If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction and continue to walk contrary to me, 24 then I too will act with hostility against you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins. 25 I will bring the sword upon you to avenge the breaking of the covenant, and when you retreat into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hands of the enemy. 26 When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven and dole out your bread by weight, and you will eat but not be satisfied. 27 But if, after all this, you do not listen to me and continue to act with hostility against me, 28 then I in turn will act with furious hostility against you, and I will discipline you seven times over for your sins. 29 You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. 30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and my soul will reject you. 31 I will lay your cities in ruins, make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will no longer smell the pleasing aroma of your offerings. 32 I will bring the land to desolation so that even your enemies who live there will be appalled by it. 33 I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you. Your land will be desolate and your cities will lie in ruins. 34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in the land of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. 35 As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths while you lived there. 36 As for those of you who survive, I will bring weakness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as though running from a sword, though no one pursues them. 37 They will stumble over one another as if fleeing from the sword, though no one pursues them. You will not be able to stand before your enemies. 38 You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you. 39 Those of you who remain will waste away in their iniquity in the lands of your enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors, they will waste away with them. 40 But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness with which they were unfaithful to me, and also how they walked contrary to me— 41 so that I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their punishment for their iniquity, 42 then I will remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. 43 For the land will be abandoned by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; they will accept their punishment for their iniquity, because they rejected my judgments and their soul abhorred my statutes. 44 Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God. 45 For their sake, I will remember the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God: I am the LORD. 46 These are the statutes, judgments, and laws the LORD established between himself and the sons of Israel through Moses on Mount Sinai.
- Deut 4:26-27 : 26 I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that you will surely be quickly destroyed from the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not extend your days there but will be utterly destroyed. 27 The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD will lead you.
- Deut 28:15-68 : 15 But if you will not listen to the voice of the LORD your God and carefully follow all His commandments and statutes I am commanding you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overtake you. 16 Cursed will you be in the city, and cursed will you be in the field. 17 Cursed will be your basket and your kneading bowl. 18 Cursed will be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your land, the offspring of your cattle, and the increase of your flocks. 19 Cursed will you be when you come in, and cursed will you be when you go out. 20 The LORD will send curses, confusion, and rebuke in everything you undertake until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil of your deeds, by which you have forsaken Me. 21 The LORD will cause pestilence to cling to you until He has consumed you from the land that you are entering to possess. 22 The LORD will strike you with wasting disease, fever, inflammation, scorching heat, drought, blight, and mildew, which will pursue you until you perish. 23 The heavens over your head will be like bronze, and the earth beneath you like iron. 24 The LORD will turn the rain of your land into dust and powder; it will come down upon you from the sky until you are destroyed. 25 The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them in one direction but flee from them in seven directions. You will become a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 Your carcasses will be food for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away. 27 The LORD will afflict you with the boils of Egypt, with tumors, scabs, and an incurable itch. 28 The LORD will strike you with madness, blindness, and confusion of heart. 29 At midday, you will grope around like a blind person in the dark. You will not prosper in your ways; you will be continually oppressed and robbed, with no one to save you. 30 You will become engaged to a woman, but another man will violate her. You will build a house, but you will not live in it. You will plant a vineyard, but you will not enjoy its fruit. 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be taken forcibly from you and will not be returned. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and no one will rescue them. 32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another people while you watch with longing eyes all day, but you will be powerless to act. 33 A people you don’t know will eat the fruit of your land and the result of your labor. You will be oppressed and crushed continually. 34 You will go mad because of the things you see with your own eyes. 35 The LORD will strike you with painful and incurable boils on your knees and legs, and from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. 36 The LORD will drive you and the king you set over yourself to a nation that neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods made of wood and stone. 37 You will become an object of horror, a byword, and a taunt among all the peoples to which the LORD will drive you. 38 You will sow much seed in the field but gather little, because locusts will consume it. 39 You will plant vineyards and cultivate them, but you will not drink their wine or gather their grapes, for worms will eat them. 40 You will have olive trees throughout your territory, but you will not anoint yourself with oil, for your olives will drop off prematurely. 41 You will have sons and daughters, but they will not remain with you, because they will go into captivity. 42 Swarms of insects will take possession of all your trees and the produce of your land. 43 The foreigner who resides among you will rise higher and higher above you, but you will sink lower and lower. 44 He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail. 45 All these curses will come upon you, pursue you, and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and statutes that He commanded you. 46 These curses will become a sign and a wonder against you and your descendants forever. 47 Because you did not serve the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly in the time of abundance. 48 You will serve your enemies whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, thirst, nakedness, and total destitution. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you. 49 The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand. 50 It will be a fierce and ruthless nation, showing no respect for the old and no mercy for the young. 51 They will eat the offspring of your livestock and the produce of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine, or fresh oil, no calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks, until they have wiped you out. 52 They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until your high fortified walls, in which you trusted, come down. They will besiege all the cities in the land the LORD your God has given you. 53 Because of the suffering your enemy inflicts upon you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of your womb—the flesh of your sons and daughters whom the LORD your God has given you. 54 Even the most tender and refined man among you will begrudge his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children who are still alive. 55 He will not share with any of them the flesh of his children that he is eating, because he has nothing else during the suffering and siege that your enemy will inflict on all your cities. 56 The most tender and delicate woman among you, so refined that she would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground, will begrudge the husband she loves, her son, and her daughter. 57 She will secretly eat her afterbirth and the children she bears during the siege and suffering that your enemy inflicts upon your cities, because she is in dire need of food. 58 If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law that are written in this book, and do not fear this glorious and awesome name—the LORD your God— 59 then the LORD will bring extraordinary plagues upon you and your descendants, severe and lasting plagues, and terrible and enduring diseases. 60 He will bring back upon you all the diseases of Egypt, which you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The LORD will also bring upon you every sickness and plague not written in this Book of the Law, until you are completely destroyed. 62 You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left few in number, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God. 63 Just as it pleased the LORD to make you prosper and multiply, so it will please Him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess. 64 Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you will serve other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. 65 Among those nations, you will find no peace, and no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyes, and a despairing soul. 66 Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will be filled with fear night and day, and you will not be sure of your life. 67 In the morning you will say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and in the evening you will say, ‘If only it were morning!’ because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights your eyes will see. 68 The LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, in the way I said you would never see again. There, you will sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.
- Deut 29:18-28 : 18 When such a person hears the words of this curse, they may bless themselves in their heart and say, 'I will have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.' This will lead to the destruction of both the well-watered and the dry. 19 The LORD will not be willing to forgive such a person. His anger and jealousy will burn against them, and every curse written in this scroll will fall on them. The LORD will blot out their name from under the heavens. 20 The LORD will single them out for disaster from all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 21 Future generations—your children who come after you and the foreigner who comes from a distant country—will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it. 22 The whole land will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger. 23 All the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this fierce, burning anger?' 24 And they will answer, 'It is because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt. 25 They turned to other gods and worshiped and bowed down to them, gods they did not know and gods the LORD had not given to them.' 26 Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, bringing upon it every curse written in this book. 27 In His anger and great wrath, the LORD uprooted them from their land and cast them into another land, as it is today. 28 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
- Deut 31:16-17 : 16 The LORD said to Moses, 'Behold, you are going to rest with your ancestors, and this people will rise up and prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them.' 17 On that day, my anger will burn against them, and I will abandon them and hide my face from them, and they will be consumed. Many disasters and calamities will come upon them, and on that day they will say, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?'
- Deut 32:15-44 : 15 But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, thick, and bloated. Then he forsook the God who made him and treated with contempt the Rock of his salvation. 16 They made Him jealous with strange gods and provoked Him to anger with detestable practices. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they had not known, to new gods that had recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear. 18 You ignored the Rock who begot you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. 19 The LORD saw this and despised them out of His anger at His sons and daughters. 20 He said: I will hide My face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom there is no faithfulness. 21 They made Me jealous with something that is not God; they provoked Me with their worthless idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a nation; I will provoke them with a foolish nation. 22 For a fire has been kindled in My wrath, and it burns to the depths of Sheol. It consumes the earth and its produce and sets ablaze the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap calamities on them and expend My arrows against them. 24 Wasted by famine, consumed by burning heat and bitter destruction, I will send against them the teeth of wild animals and the venom of creatures that crawl in the dust. 25 Outside, the sword will bring bereavement, and inside, there will be terror. It will affect both the young man and the young woman, the nursing child with the gray-haired man. 26 I said I would scatter them and erase their memory from mankind, 27 but I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries misunderstand and say, 'Our own hand has triumphed; it was not the LORD who did all this.' 28 For they are a nation void of counsel, and there is no understanding in them. 29 If only they were wise and would understand this, they would comprehend their latter end. 30 How could one chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them and the LORD had handed them over? 31 For their rock is not like our Rock, even our enemies concede this. 32 Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are poisonous, and their clusters are bitter. 33 Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras. 34 Is it not stored up with Me, sealed in My treasuries? 35 Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is quickly approaching. 36 For the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants when He sees that their strength is gone and no one is left—neither slave nor free. 37 And He will say: 'Where are their gods? The rock they sought refuge in? 38 The ones who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you; let them be your shelter! 39 See now that I, I alone, am He, and there is no god besides Me. I put to death and I bring to life, I wound and I heal, and no one can deliver out of My hand. 40 For I lift My hand to the heavens and declare: As surely as I live forever, 41 when I sharpen My flashing sword and My hand takes hold of judgment, I will bring vengeance on My adversaries and repay those who hate Me. 42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword will devour flesh, the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders. 43 Rejoice, you nations, with His people, for He will avenge the blood of His servants; He will take vengeance on His enemies and make atonement for His land and people. 44 Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people.
- 1 Sam 2:27-32 : 27 Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, ‘This is what the LORD says: Did I not clearly reveal Myself to your ancestors’ family when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh?’ 28 Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in My presence? And I gave to your forefather’s family all the offerings made by fire from the Israelites. 29 Why do you scorn My sacrifice and offering that I commanded for My dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than Me by fattening yourselves on the best of all the offerings of My people Israel? 30 Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: I certainly said that your house and your father’s house would walk before Me forever. But now the LORD declares: Far be it from Me! For those who honor Me I will honor, but those who despise Me will be disdained. 31 The days are coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your father’s house, so that there will not be an old man in your house. 32 You will see distress in My dwelling, despite all the good I do for Israel. Never will there be an old man in your family line.
- 1 Sam 3:11-14 : 11 The Lord said to Samuel, "Look, I am going to do something in Israel that will cause everyone who hears about it to tremble. 12 On that day I will carry out everything I have spoken against Eli’s house, from beginning to end. 13 I have told him that I will judge his house forever because of the sin he knew about. His sons were cursing God, and he did not restrain them. 14 Therefore, I have sworn to the house of Eli that the guilt of his house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.
- 1 Kgs 14:7-9 : 7 Go and tell Jeroboam, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler over My people Israel. 8 I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes. 9 You have done more evil than all who came before you. You have gone and made other gods and cast images to provoke Me to anger, and you have turned your back on Me. 10 Therefore, I am bringing disaster on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off every male in Jeroboam’s family, whether slave or free in Israel. I will sweep away the house of Jeroboam as one sweeps away dung until it is gone. 11 Anyone in Jeroboam’s family who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs; and anyone who dies in the field will be eaten by the birds of the sky, for the LORD has spoken. 12 Now, get up and go back to your house. When you set foot in the city, the boy will die. 13 All Israel will mourn him and bury him, for he alone of Jeroboam's family will come to the grave. He is the only one in whom the LORD, the God of Israel, found something good within the house of Jeroboam. 14 The LORD will raise up a king over Israel who will cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is the day! What indeed is even now happening! 15 The LORD will strike Israel as a reed sways in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land that He gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they made Asherah poles, angering the LORD.
