  • 1 Chr 22:1-9 : 1 Then David said, 'This is the house of the Lord God, and this is the altar of burnt offerings for Israel.' 2 David commanded the gathering of the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, and he appointed stonecutters to prepare dressed stones to build the house of God. 3 David provided an abundance of iron for making nails for the doors of the gates and for clamps, as well as so much bronze that it was beyond measure. 4 He also supplied cedar logs without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought great quantities of cedar logs to David. 5 David said, 'My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent to promote His name and glory throughout all lands. Therefore, I will make preparations for it.' So David made extensive preparations before his death. 6 Then he called for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel. 7 David said to Solomon, 'My son, it was in my heart to build a house for the name of the Lord my God.' 8 But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'You have shed much blood and have fought great wars. You shall not build a house for my name, because you have shed abundant blood on the earth in my sight.' 9 Behold, a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies around him. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant peace and quiet to Israel during his reign. 10 He will build a house for my name, and he will be my son, and I will be his father. I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever. 11 Now, my son, may the Lord be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of the Lord your God, as He has spoken concerning you. 12 Only may the Lord give you wisdom and understanding and put you in charge of Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God. 13 Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and ordinances that the Lord commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous; do not fear or be dismayed. 14 Now, behold, in my trouble, I have prepared for the house of the Lord one hundred thousand talents of gold, a million talents of silver, and so much bronze and iron that it cannot be weighed, as well as timber and stone in abundance, which you may add to. 15 Moreover, you have an abundance of workers—stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and every kind of skilled craftsman. 16 Gold, silver, bronze, and iron are beyond measure. Arise and begin the work, and may the Lord be with you. 17 Then David commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon. 18 He said, 'Isn’t the Lord your God with you? And hasn’t He given you rest on every side? For He has handed the inhabitants of the land over to me, and the land is subdued before the Lord and His people.' 19 Now set your heart and soul to seek the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.
  • 1 Chr 28:2-29:17 : 2 Then King David stood to his feet and said: “Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a resting place for the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD and a footstool for our God, and I made preparations to build it. 3 But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for My name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’ 4 Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father's house to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah as leader, and within the house of Judah, He was pleased to choose my father's family. And among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel. 5 Of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the LORD’s kingdom over Israel. 6 He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his Father. 7 I will establish his kingdom forever if he is resolute in keeping My commandments and ordinances, as he is doing today.’ 8 Now, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek all the commandments of the LORD your God so that you may possess this good land and leave it as an inheritance for your descendants forever. 9 And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. 10 Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house as the sanctuary. Be strong and do it. 11 Then David gave his son Solomon the plans for the portico of the temple, its buildings, its storerooms, its upper rooms, its inner rooms, and the room for the mercy seat. 12 He also gave him the plans for all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the house of the LORD, all the surrounding rooms, the treasuries of the temple of God, and the treasuries for the consecrated things. 13 He specified the divisions of the priests and Levites, for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the articles of service in the house of the LORD. 14 He assigned the weight of gold for all gold articles used in every kind of service, and the weight of silver for all silver articles used in every kind of service. 15 The weight of gold for the lampstands and their lamps, with the weight for each lampstand and its lamps, and the weight of silver for the silver lampstands, with the weight for each lampstand and its lamps, depending on the service of each lampstand. 16 He designated the weight of gold for the tables for the bread of presence, for each table, and the silver for the silver tables. 17 He also gave instructions for the pure gold forks, sprinkling bowls, pitchers, and the weight for each gold basin and for each silver basin. 18 Furthermore, he designated the refined gold for the altar of incense and for the design of the chariot—that is, the gold cherubim that spread their wings and cover the ark of the covenant of the LORD. 19 David said, “All this I have written down by the hand of the LORD who gave me understanding in all the plans for everything to be done.” 20 Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished. 21 The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the service of the temple of God, and every willing volunteer skilled in any craft will assist you in all the work. The officials and all the people will be at your command. 1 Then King David said to the entire assembly, "My son Solomon, the one chosen by God, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great because this temple is not for man but for the LORD God." 2 So, to the best of my ability, I have made preparations for the house of my God: gold for the gold work, silver for the silver work, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx stones, inlaid stones, colored stones, all kinds of precious stones, and marble in abundance. 3 Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now dedicate my personal treasure of gold and silver for the house of my God, in addition to all I have already provided for the holy house. 4 This includes three thousand talents of gold from Ophir and seven thousand talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the buildings. 5 Gold for the gold work and silver for the silver work, and for all the work done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today? 6 Then the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly. 7 They gave for the work of the house of God: five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. 8 And those who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 The people rejoiced at their willing offering, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. And King David also rejoiced greatly. 10 David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, "Blessed are you, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting." 11 Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; indeed, everything in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honor come from you, and you rule over everything. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name. 14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give so generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15 For we are strangers and temporary residents before you, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. 16 LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. In the uprightness of my heart, I have freely offered all these things; and now I have seen your people, who are present here, joyfully and willingly give to you.
  • 2 Chr 1:9-9 : 9 Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?
  • 2 Chr 15:8-9 : 8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the LORD’s temple. 9 Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who had settled among them, for a great number had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him. 10 They assembled in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign. 11 On that day they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought. 12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul. 13 Anyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman. 14 They took an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with rams' horns. 15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought the LORD eagerly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
  • 2 Chr 17:3-9 : 3 The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the early ways of his ancestor David and did not seek after the Baals. 4 Instead, he sought the God of his father and obeyed His commands rather than following the practices of Israel. 5 The LORD established the kingdom under his control, and all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, so he had great riches and honor. 6 His heart was encouraged in the ways of the LORD, and moreover, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah. 7 In the third year of his reign, he sent his officials—Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah—to teach in the cities of Judah. 8 With them were the Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram. 9 They taught in Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went around to all the cities of Judah and instructed the people.
  • 2 Chr 19:4-9 : 4 Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, but he also went out among the people, from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and turned them back to the LORD, the God of their ancestors. 5 He appointed judges throughout the land, in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city. 6 He said to the judges, 'Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals, but for the LORD, who is with you whenever you give a judgment.' 7 Now let the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful and act, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice, partiality, or taking of bribes. 8 In Jerusalem also, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites, priests, and heads of the Israelite families to administer the law of the LORD and settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem. 9 He gave them these orders: 'You must act in the fear of the LORD, faithfully and with a whole heart.' 10 Whatever case comes to you from your fellow Israelites living in their cities—whether of bloodshed or other matters of the law, commands, statutes, or decrees—you are to warn them not to sin against the LORD; otherwise, His wrath will come upon you and your people. Do this, and you will not sin.
  • 2 Chr 31:20-21 : 20 This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good, upright, and true before the Lord his God. 21 In everything he undertook in the service of the house of God, in observing the law and the commandments, and in seeking his God, he worked wholeheartedly and prospered.
  • 2 Chr 33:15-16 : 15 He removed the foreign gods and the image from the house of the LORD, and all the altars he had built on the hill of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside the city. 16 Then he restored the altar of the LORD and offered on it sacrifices of peace offerings and thanksgiving. And he commanded Judah to worship the LORD, the God of Israel.
  • 2 Chr 34:1-9 : 1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he ruled in Jerusalem for thirty-one years. 2 He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, walking in the ways of his forefather David. He did not turn aside to the right or to the left. 3 In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his ancestor David. In the twelfth year, he started to purify Judah and Jerusalem by removing the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved images, and the cast idols. 4 In his presence, they tore down the altars of the Baals, and he cut down the incense altars that were above them. He shattered the Asherah poles, the carved images, and the cast idols, crushing them into powder, and he scattered the dust over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them. 5 He burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and he purified Judah and Jerusalem. 6 He did the same in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, Simeon, and as far as Naphtali, in their ruins all around. 7 He tore down the altars and the Asherah poles, smashed the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem. 8 In the eighteenth year of his reign, to cleanse the land and the temple, he sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the city governor, and Joah son of Joahaz, the recorder, to restore the house of the LORD his God. 9 They went to Hilkiah the high priest and gave him the money that had been brought to the house of God, which the Levites, the gatekeepers, had collected from Manasseh, Ephraim, and the remnant of Israel, as well as all Judah, Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 10 They gave it into the hands of the supervisors of the work being done on the house of the LORD, who then gave it to the workmen repairing and restoring the temple. 11 They gave it to the craftsmen and builders to buy dressed stones, timber for joists, and beams for the buildings that the kings of Judah had allowed to fall into ruin. 12 The men worked faithfully. Jahath and Obadiah, Levites from the descendants of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam from the descendants of Kohath supervised them. The Levites, all skilled musicians, also assisted in the work. 13 They were in charge of the laborers and oversaw all the workers involved in the various tasks. Some of the Levites served as scribes, officers, and gatekeepers. 14 While they were bringing out the money that had been brought to the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the scroll of the Law of the LORD written by Moses. 15 Hilkiah announced to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the scroll of the Law in the house of the LORD." He gave the scroll to Shaphan. 16 Shaphan took the scroll to the king and reported to him, saying, "We are carrying out everything that has been assigned to your servants. 17 They have collected the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have handed it over to the supervisors and workers in charge of the work." 18 Shaphan the scribe also told the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me the scroll," and Shaphan read it aloud before the king. 19 When the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes in distress. 20 Then the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, the king's servant, saying: 21 "Go and inquire of the LORD for me and for those remaining in Israel and Judah about the words of this scroll that has been found. For great is the LORD's wrath that is poured out on us because our ancestors did not obey the words of the LORD by following everything written in this scroll." 22 So Hilkiah and those sent by the king went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, the keeper of the wardrobe. She was living in Jerusalem in the Second District, and they spoke with her there. 23 She said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Tell the man who sent you to me, 24 'This is what the LORD says: I am about to bring disaster on this place and its inhabitants, all the curses written in the book that was read in the presence of the king of Judah. 25 Because they have abandoned Me and burned incense to other gods, provoking Me to anger with all the works of their hands, My wrath will be poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.' 26 But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD, this is what you shall say to him: 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard: 27 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and its inhabitants, and because you tore your clothes and wept in My presence, I have heard you,' declares the LORD. 28 'Now I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am about to bring on this place and its inhabitants.'" So they brought back this message to the king. 29 Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30 The king went up to the house of the LORD with all the men of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites, and all the people, from the greatest to the least. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD. 31 The king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD to follow the LORD, to keep His commandments, decrees, and statutes with all his heart and all his soul, and to carry out the words of the covenant written in this book. 32 He had everyone in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge themselves to it. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem acted according to the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors. 33 Josiah removed all the detestable idols from all the territories belonging to the Israelites, and he compelled everyone in Israel to serve the LORD their God. Throughout his reign, they did not turn aside from following the LORD, the God of their ancestors.
  • Neh 5:14-19 : 14 Moreover, from the day I was appointed to be governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year to the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes—twelve years—neither I nor my brothers ate the food allotted to the governor. 15 The former governors who were before me placed heavy burdens on the people, taking food and wine from them, in addition to forty shekels of silver. Even their servants oppressed the people. But because of the fear of God, I did not act like that. 16 Instead, I devoted myself to the work on this wall. We did not acquire any land, and all my servants were gathered there for the work. 17 Moreover, there were at my table one hundred and fifty Jews and officials, as well as those who came to us from the surrounding nations. 18 Each day, one ox, six choice sheep, and some birds were prepared for me, and every ten days an abundance of wine of all kinds. Despite this, I did not demand the food allotted to the governor, because the burden on the people was heavy. 19 Remember me with favor, O my God, for all that I have done for these people.

  • Isa 60:5-9 : 5 Then you will see and be radiant, your heart will tremble and swell with joy, because the wealth of the sea will be brought to you, and the riches of the nations will come to you. 6 A multitude of camels will cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense and will proclaim the praises of the Lord. 7 All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth will serve you; they will go up with acceptance on my altar, and I will glorify the house of my splendor. 8 Who are these flying like a cloud, and like doves to their windows? 9 Surely the coastlands will wait for me; the ships of Tarshish will come first, bringing your sons from afar, their silver and gold with them, for the name of the Lord your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you. 10 Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you; for though I struck you in my wrath, I will show you compassion in my favor. 11 Your gates will always be open; they will never be shut, day or night, so that the wealth of the nations may be brought to you, and their kings led in procession. 12 For any nation or kingdom that will not serve you shall perish; those nations will be utterly ruined. 13 The glory of Lebanon will come to you—cypress, pine, and box tree together—to beautify the place of my sanctuary, and I will glorify the place of my feet. 14 The children of those who oppressed you will come and bow down before you; all who despised you will bow at your feet. They will call you the City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel. 15 Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, I will make you an everlasting pride, a joy of all generations. 16 You will suck the milk of nations; you will nurse at royal breasts. Then you will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

But if unwillingly, I am simply entrusted with a responsibility. 18 What then is my reward? It is that when I preach the gospel, I may offer it free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. 19 For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to everyone, so that I might win more of them. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law, I became like one under the law, even though I myself am not under the law, to win those under the law. 21 To those without the law, I became like one without the law (not being without God’s law but under the law of Christ), to win those without the law. 22 To the weak, I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.
