- Num 21:21-24 : 21 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, 22 'Let us pass through your land. We will not turn aside into any field or vineyard, nor drink water from any well. We will travel along the King’s Highway until we pass through your territory.' 23 But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. He gathered all his people and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness; he came to Jahaz and fought with Israel. 24 Israel defeated him with the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the Ammonites, for the border of the Ammonites was fortified.
- Deut 2:30-36 : 30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through his land, for the LORD your God had hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, so that He might deliver him into your hands, as has now happened. 31 Then the LORD said to me, 'See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land to you. Begin to take possession of it, that you may inherit his land.' 32 So Sihon came out with all his people to meet us in battle at Jahaz. 33 And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we struck him down along with his sons and his whole army. 34 At that time we captured all his cities and completely destroyed every city, including the men, women, and children; we left no survivors. 35 Only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we took as spoil for ourselves. 36 From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, and from the city in the valley, even to Gilead, not one city was too strong for us. The LORD our God gave them all into our hands.
