52The men of Israel and Judah rose up, shouted, and pursued the Philistines all the way to the entrance of the valley and to the gates of Ekron. The dead Philistines lay scattered along the road to Shaaraim, as far as Gath and Ekron.

27The people repeated to him what they had been saying: 'This is what will be done for the man who kills him.'
31When David's words were heard, they were reported to Saul, and he sent for him.
32David said to Saul, 'Let no one lose heart because of this Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him.'
33But Saul replied, 'You cannot go against this Philistine to fight him. You are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.'
35'I went after it, struck it, and rescued the lamb from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its mane, struck it, and killed it.'
36'Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.'
37David added, 'The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.' Saul said to David, 'Go, and may the LORD be with you.'
