    2When Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, 'David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.'

    3So Saul chose three thousand elite men from all Israel and went to search for David and his men near the rocks of the wild goats.

    27a messenger came to Saul, saying, 'Hurry and come, because the Philistines have raided the land.'

    28Then Saul stopped pursuing David and went to confront the Philistines. That is why they called that place the Rock of Escape.

    1Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah and said, "Isn't David hiding on the hill of Hachilah, which overlooks the wilderness?"

    2So Saul arose and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, taking three thousand select men of Israel with him to search for David in the wilderness of Ziph.

    3Saul camped on the hill of Hachilah, which faces the wilderness along the road, while David stayed in the wilderness. When he saw that Saul had come into the wilderness after him,

    4David sent out spies and learned that Saul had definitely come.

    5Then David got up and went to the place where Saul had camped. He saw where Saul and Abner son of Ner, the commander of his army, were lying down. Saul was lying inside the camp with the troops encamped around him.

    13So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and moved wherever they could go. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he stopped his pursuit.

    14David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul searched for him every day, but God did not hand David over to him.

    15When David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life, he stayed in the Wilderness of Ziph, in the woods.

    7He said to his men, 'The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my lord, the LORD’s anointed, by raising my hand against him, for he is the LORD’s anointed.'

    8With these words, David restrained his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. Then Saul left the cave and went on his way.

    9David got up afterward, went out of the cave, and called after Saul, 'My lord the king!' When Saul looked behind him, David bowed down with his face to the ground and paid homage.

    24When Saul’s servants reported back what David had said,

    25Saul replied, 'Say to David, "The king wants no other price for the bride than a hundred Philistine foreskins, to take revenge on his enemies."' Saul’s plan was to have David fall by the hands of the Philistines.

    7Saul was informed that David had gone to Keilah, and he said, "God has delivered him into my hand, for he has trapped himself by entering a city with gates and bars."

    8So Saul summoned all the troops for battle to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
