1 Sam 29:2-30:3 : 2 The Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, and David and his men were marching at the rear with Achish.
3 The Philistine commanders asked, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" Achish replied to the Philistine commanders, "Isn't this David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for days or years? I have found no fault in him from the day he defected to me until now."
4 But the Philistine commanders were angry with him and said to him, "Send the man back! Let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he might become our adversary during the fighting. How better to regain his master's favor than with the heads of our men?
5 Isn't this the David they sang about in their dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands'?
6 So Achish called David and said to him, "As surely as the LORD lives, you have been upright, and your conduct with me in the camp has been good in my eyes. I have found no fault in you from the day you came to me until today. But the rulers don’t approve of you.
7 Now turn back and go in peace, so you don’t displease the Philistine rulers.
8 David said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I first came to you until now, that I may not go and fight the enemies of my lord the king?"
9 Achish answered David, "I know that you are as pleasing in my eyes as an angel of God. Nevertheless, the Philistine commanders have said, 'He must not go up with us into battle.'
10 Now get up early in the morning, along with your master's servants who have come with you, and leave as soon as it is light.
11 So David and his men rose early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines, but the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
1 On the third day, when David and his men arrived at Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had invaded the Negev and Ziklag. They had attacked Ziklag and burned it to the ground.
2 The Amalekites had taken the women and everyone in the city captive, from the youngest to the oldest. They had not killed anyone but had taken them away as prisoners and gone on their way.
3 When David and his men came to the city, they saw that it had been burned, and their wives, sons, and daughters had been taken captive.
