    1David said to himself, "One day I will perish at the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up looking for me throughout the territory of Israel, and I will be safe from him."

    2So David arose and went over with his six hundred men to Achish son of Maoch, king of Gath.

    3David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each with their households, and David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel.

    2The Philistine rulers marched with their units of hundreds and thousands, and David and his men were marching at the rear with Achish.

    3The Philistine commanders asked, "What are these Hebrews doing here?" Achish replied to the Philistine commanders, "Isn't this David, the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for days or years? I have found no fault in him from the day he defected to me until now."

    4But the Philistine commanders were angry with him and said to him, "Send the man back! Let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he might become our adversary during the fighting. How better to regain his master's favor than with the heads of our men?

    23As he was speaking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual words, and David heard them.

    24When the men of Israel saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.

  • 15Once again, there was war between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight the Philistines, and he became exhausted.

  • 17When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him. But David heard of it and went down to the stronghold.

  • 1After this, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its surrounding villages from the control of the Philistines.

  • 24When Saul’s servants reported back what David had said,

  • 8These were descendants of the giants in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men.

  • 17Saul recognized David’s voice and said, "Is that your voice, my son David?" David replied, "It is my voice, my lord the king."

  • 3So Saul chose three thousand elite men from all Israel and went to search for David and his men near the rocks of the wild goats.

  • 30But David could not go before it to seek God because he was terrified of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
