4He came to the sheepfolds along the way, and there was a cave. Saul went in to relieve himself, while David and his men were sitting in the innermost part of the cave.

5David went out and was successful in everything Saul sent him to do. Saul gave him command over the soldiers, and he was well-liked by everyone, including Saul’s officers.
22Now swear to me by the LORD that you will not cut off my descendants or destroy my name from my father's family.
12David’s men turned and went back. When they arrived, they reported every word.
11David got up and fled that day from Saul’s presence and went to Achish the king of Gath.
14Then David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, son of Saul, to say, 'Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a payment of one hundred Philistine foreskins.'

10David said, "LORD, God of Israel, your servant has certainly heard that Saul intends to come to Keilah and destroy the city because of me.
11Will the leaders of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? LORD, God of Israel, please tell your servant." And the LORD answered, "He will come down."
12Then David said, 'Will the leaders of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?' The LORD replied, 'They will hand you over.'
1David went up from there and stayed in the strongholds of En-gedi.
22David answered and said, "Here is the king's spear. Let one of the young men come over and take it.
7Saul said to his servants who stood around him, 'Listen now, men of Benjamin! Will the son of Jesse give all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds?'
8'You have all conspired against me! No one reveals to me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you feels sorry for me or tells me that my son has stirred up my servant to lie in wait for me, as he does today.'

8Saul became very angry at this and it displeased him greatly. He said, "They have credited David with tens of thousands but only thousands to me. What more can he have but the kingdom?"

25The Israelites said, 'Have you seen this man who comes out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him; he will also give him his daughter in marriage and exempt his family from taxes in Israel.'
26David said to the men standing with him, 'What will be done for the man who strikes down this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?'
34David said to Saul, 'Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep. Whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,'
16David said to him, 'Your blood is on your own head, because your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the LORD's anointed.’'
