  • 1 Cor 12:8-9 : 8 To one, a message of wisdom is given through the Spirit; to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by that one Spirit; 10 to another, miraculous powers; to another, prophecy; to another, distinguishing between spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one just as He wills.
  • 1 Cor 12:28-30 : 28 And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, guidance, and different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
  • 1 Cor 14:1-9 : 1 Pursue love, and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, because no one understands; they speak mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and comfort. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up themselves, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 I wish that all of you spoke in tongues, but I would rather you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless they interpret so that the church may be built up. 6 Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what good will I be to you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? 7 Even lifeless instruments like the flute or harp, if they do not produce a clear distinction in the notes, how will anyone recognize what is played on the flute or the harp? 8 For if the trumpet gives an unclear sound, who will prepare for battle? 9 In the same way, unless you speak intelligible words through your tongue, how will anyone understand what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10 There are so many kinds of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11 If I do not understand the meaning of what someone is saying, I will be a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker will be a foreigner to me. 12 So with yourselves, since you are eager for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in building up the church. 13 Therefore, the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. 16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can someone who is in the position of an outsider say 'Amen' to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17 You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not built up. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 But in the church, I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in regard to evil, but in your thinking be mature. 21 In the Law it is written: 'By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me,' says the Lord. 22 Thus, tongues are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign, not for unbelievers but for believers. 23 So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your mind? 24 But if everyone is prophesying and an unbeliever or uninitiated person enters, they are convicted of sin by all and are examined by all. 25 The secrets of their heart are revealed, and they will fall facedown and worship God, exclaiming, 'God is truly among you!'
  • 1 Tim 5:22 : 22 Do not be hasty in laying on hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.
  • 2 Tim 1:6 : 6 For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
