  • Hag 1:1-2:1 : 1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying: 2 This is what the LORD of Hosts says: These people say, 'The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.' 3 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai, saying: 4 Is this a time for you to live in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? 5 Now, this is what the LORD of Hosts says: Consider carefully your ways. 6 You have planted much but harvested little. You eat but are never satisfied. You drink but never have enough to be filled. You put on clothes but are not warm. The one who earns wages earns them to put into a bag with holes. 7 This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Consider carefully your ways. 8 Go up into the mountains, bring down timber, and build the house, so that I may be pleased with it and be glorified, says the LORD. 9 You expected much, but it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew it away. Why?” declares the LORD of Hosts. “Because My house remains in ruins, while each of you is busy with your own house. 10 Therefore, because of you, the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops. 11 I called for a drought on the fields and the mountains, on the grain, the new wine, the olive oil, and everything the ground produces, on people and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands. 12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the entire remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD. 13 Then Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, delivered the LORD's message to the people, saying, 'I am with you,' declares the LORD. 14 The LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD of Hosts, their God. 15 On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king. 1 In the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the LORD came through Haggai the prophet, saying:

He will bring out the capstone with shouts of 'Grace, grace to it!' 8 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you. 10 For who has despised the day of small beginnings? These seven rejoice when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. • Zech 1:1-9 : 1 In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying: 2 The Lord was very angry with your ancestors. 3 Therefore, say to them: 'This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Return to me,' declares the Lord of Hosts, 'and I will return to you,' says the Lord of Hosts. 4 Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: 'This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.' But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Where are your ancestors now? And do the prophets live forever? 6 But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your ancestors? So they repented and said, 'As the Lord of Hosts planned to do to us, according to our ways and our deeds, so He has done to us.' 7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying: 8 I saw during the night, and behold, a man was riding on a red horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in the hollow, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. 9 Then I asked, 'What are these, my lord?' The angel who was speaking with me answered, 'I will show you what they are.' 10 And the man standing among the myrtle trees said, 'These are the ones the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.' 11 And they reported to the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, saying, 'We have gone throughout the earth, and behold, the whole earth is at rest and quiet.' 12 Then the angel of the Lord said, 'Lord of Hosts, how long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which you have been angry with these seventy years?' 13 And the Lord answered the angel who was speaking with me with kind and comforting words. 14 Then the angel who was speaking with me said, 'Proclaim this: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I am very zealous for Jerusalem and Zion with a great jealousy.' 15 But I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they added to the harm. 16 'Therefore, this is what the Lord says: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion; my house will be rebuilt, declares the Lord of Hosts, and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.' 17 Proclaim again: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: 'My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.'
