3But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel said to them, "You have no part with us in building a temple to our God. We alone will build it for the LORD, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus, king of Persia, has commanded us."
8In the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers—the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned from captivity to Jerusalem—began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years old and older to oversee the work on the house of the LORD.
9Jeshua and his sons and brothers, along with Kadmiel and his sons, who were descendants of Judah, joined together to oversee those working on the house of God. The sons of Henadad, along with their sons and brothers, the Levites, also took part in the work.
10When the builders laid the foundation of the LORD’s temple, the priests, dressed in their robes and holding trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, took their places to praise the LORD as David king of Israel had instructed.
14The LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD of Hosts, their God.
15On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
2They went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah and the leaders of the ancestral families of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
1When the seventh month came, and the Israelites were in their cities, the people gathered together as one in Jerusalem.

6These are the people of the province who returned from the captivity of the exiles whom King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had taken into exile. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town.
15And he said to him, 'Take these vessels and go; deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.'
16Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem. And from that time until now, it has been under construction and is not yet completed.
17And now, if it seems good to the king, let a search be made in the royal archives in Babylon to determine if a decree was indeed issued by King Cyrus to rebuild this house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision concerning this matter.
27Blessed be the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem.

7Leave the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.
8Moreover, I issue a decree as to what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the rebuilding of this house of God: The expenses are to be fully paid to these men from the royal treasury from the tributes of the region Beyond the River, so that the work is not hindered.
5He gathered the priests and Levites and said to them, "Go out to the cities of Judah and collect from all Israel money to repair the house of your God annually. Hurry and do this task." But the Levites did not act quickly.
1Now these are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles, whom Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, had taken captive to Babylon. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to their own town.
18I told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me. They replied, "Let us arise and build!" So they strengthened their hands for the good work.
5Then Ezra arose and made the leaders of the priests, Levites, and all Israel take an oath to do what had been said. So they took the oath.
2The people praised all those who willingly volunteered to live in Jerusalem.

23This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and has appointed me to build a temple for Him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of His people among you—may the LORD their God be with them, and let them go up.’
