    19For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what He has promised him.

    20Then the LORD said, 'The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is very grave.

    21'I will go down now and see if what they have done matches the outcry that has come to Me. If not, I will know.'

    22The men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the LORD.

    23Then Abraham approached Him and said, 'Will You sweep away the righteous with the wicked?'

    24'Suppose there are fifty righteous people within the city. Will You really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are there?'

    25'Far be it from You to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?'

    26The LORD replied, 'If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the entire place for their sake.'

    27Then Abraham answered, 'I have ventured to speak to the Lord, though I am but dust and ashes.

    28'Suppose the fifty righteous people lack five. Will You destroy the entire city for lack of five?' He replied, 'If I find forty-five there, I will not destroy it.'

    20Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it—it is very small, isn’t it? Then my life will be spared."

    21He said to him, "Very well, I will grant this request too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of.

    22But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it." (That is why the town was called Zoar.)

  • 40As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah along with their neighbors, declares the LORD, no one will live there, and no human being will dwell in it.

  • 10But if it does evil in My sight by not listening to My voice, then I will relent concerning the good I had promised to bless it with.

  • 8But if that nation I have warned repents of its evil, then I will relent concerning the disaster I had planned to bring upon it.

  • 5I have spoken once, but I will not answer; twice, but I will say no more.
