Therefore, it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." 10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 From that land, Asshur went out and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, 12 and Resen between Nineveh and Calah, which is a great city. 13 Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, and Naphtuhim. 14 He also fathered Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim. 15 Canaan fathered Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth, 16 as well as the Jebusites, Amorites, and Girgashites, 17 and the Hivites, Arkites, and Sinites, 18 and the Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Later, the clans of the Canaanites were scattered. 19 The border of the Canaanites stretched from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham by their clans, languages, lands, and nations. 21 Sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth, the ancestor of all the sons of Eber. 22 The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. 23 The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. 24 Arphaxad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. 25 To Eber were born two sons: one was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan. 26 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, 27 and Hadoram, Uzal, and Diklah, 28 and Obal, Abimael, and Sheba, 29 and Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan. 30 Their settlement extended from Mesha toward Sephar, to the eastern hill country. 31 These are the sons of Shem by their clans, languages, lands, and nations. 32 These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their genealogies, by their nations. From these, the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
