16But King Zedekiah swore an oath secretly to Jeremiah, "As surely as the LORD lives, who has given us breath, I will neither put you to death nor hand you over to those who want to kill you."
17Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "This is what the LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, your life will be spared and this city will not be burned down; you and your family will live.
18But if you will not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, this city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, and they will burn it down; you yourself will not escape from their hands.’"
19King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "I am afraid of the Jews who have gone over to the Babylonians, for the Babylonians may hand me over to them, and they will mistreat me."
20Jeremiah said, "They will not hand you over. Please listen to the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, so that it may go well for you and your life will be spared.
21But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word the LORD has shown me:
2This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell Zedekiah, king of Judah, 'This is what the Lord says: I am delivering this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.'
3And you will not escape from his hand, for you will surely be captured and handed over to him. Your eyes will see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he will speak directly to you. You will go to Babylon.
4Yet hear the word of the Lord, O Zedekiah, king of Judah! This is what the Lord says concerning you: You will not die by the sword.
5You will die in peace, and as burnings were made for your ancestors, the former kings who were before you, so they will burn incense for you and lament for you, saying, 'Alas, lord!' For I have spoken the word, declares the Lord.
6Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah, king of Judah, in Jerusalem.

19Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Babylon will not come against you or this land'?
20Now please hear me, my lord the king. Let my plea come before you: Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.
3But Jeremiah said to them, "This is what you shall say to Zedekiah:
4The officials said to the king, "This man must be put to death, because he is discouraging the soldiers who remain in the city and all the people by speaking these words to them. He is not seeking the welfare of this people, but only their harm."
5King Zedekiah replied, "He is in your hands. The king can do nothing to oppose you."
7And the priests, the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
8And when Jeremiah finished speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests, the prophets, and all the people seized him, saying, 'You shall surely die!'
23They will also bring out all your wives and your children to the Babylonians. You yourself will not escape from their hands but will be captured by the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned down."
3King Zedekiah of Judah had imprisoned him there, saying, "Why are you prophesying and declaring, 'This is what the LORD says: I am about to give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.'
4Zedekiah, king of Judah, will not escape from the hands of the Chaldeans. He will certainly be handed over to the king of Babylon; they will speak face to face and see each other directly.
5He will take Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will stay until I deal with him, declares the LORD. If you fight against the Chaldeans, you will not succeed.
24Nevertheless, Ahikam son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.
1Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchiah heard the words Jeremiah was speaking to all the people:
2This is what the LORD says: Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine, or plague. But whoever goes out to the Chaldeans will live; they will escape with their life and survive.
26Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a royal prince, Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
27After the king burned the scroll containing the words Baruch had written at Jeremiah’s dictation, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
8Ebed-Melech went out of the palace and said to the king,
9"My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have thrown him into a cistern, where he will die from hunger, since there is no longer any bread in the city."
10The king commanded Ebed-Melech the Cushite, "Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies."
21Therefore, this is what the LORD says concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life and say, ‘Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, or you will die by our hands.’
15Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at Mizpah, saying, 'Let me go and kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah. No one will know about it. Why should he take your life, causing all the Jews who have gathered to you to scatter and leaving the remnant of Judah to perish?'
3Rather, Baruch son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Chaldeans, to be killed or deported to Babylon.
12I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah with the same message, saying, "Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and you will live.
13Why should you and your people die by the sword, famine, and plague, as the LORD has spoken regarding any nation that does not serve the king of Babylon?
18Then they said, 'Come, let's devise plans against Jeremiah, for instruction won't vanish from the priest, counsel from the wise, or a word from the prophet. Come, let's attack him with our words, and let's not pay attention to anything he says.'
8The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to proclaim liberty to them:
4Now Jeremiah was free to come and go among the people, for he had not yet been put into prison.
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when King Zedekiah sent Pashhur son of Malkijah and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest to him, saying,
2Neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land listened to the words of the LORD, which He spoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
12“Take him and look after him; do him no harm, but do for him whatever he tells you.”
19Then the people said to me, 'Will you not tell us what these things mean for us, since you are acting this way?'
