21Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the Moabite officials.
22But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD took his stand in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding his donkey, and his two servants were with him.
23When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, it turned off the road into a field. Balaam struck the donkey to make it turn back onto the road.
15Balaam said to Balak, 'Stay here beside your burnt offering while I meet the LORD over there.'
16The LORD met with Balaam and put a message in his mouth, saying, 'Return to Balak and speak these words.'
17So Balaam returned to Balak, who was standing beside his burnt offering with the officials of Moab. Balak asked him, 'What did the LORD say?'
18Then Balaam proclaimed his oracle, saying: 'Stand up, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor!'
2Balak did as Balaam said, and Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
3Balaam said to Balak, 'Stand beside your burnt offering while I go. Perhaps the LORD will meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you.' Then he went to a barren height.
4God met with Balaam, and Balaam said to Him, 'I have prepared seven altars, and on each altar I have placed a bull and a ram.'
5The LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said, 'Go back to Balak and speak this to him.'
12But God said to Balaam, 'Do not go with them. You must not curse the people, for they are blessed.'
13The next morning, Balaam got up and said to Balak’s officials, 'Go back to your own country, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you.'
14So the Moabite leaders returned to Balak and said, 'Balaam refused to come with us.'
25Then Balak said to Balaam, 'If you won’t curse them for me, then at least don’t bless them!'
26But Balaam replied, 'Didn’t I tell you that I must do whatever the LORD says?'
27Then Balak said to Balaam, 'Come, let me take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there.'
12Balaam answered Balak, 'Did I not tell your messengers that you sent to me,'
13'Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the command of the LORD, to do anything good or bad of my own will. What the LORD says, that I will speak.'
14'Now I am going back to my people, but let me warn you what this people will do to your people in the days to come.'
15Then Balaam began his oracle, saying: 'The oracle of Balaam, son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,'
11Balak said to Balaam, 'What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!'
12He answered, 'Must I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?'
13Then Balak said to him, 'Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will see only a part of them, not all of them. From there, curse them for me.'
5He sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor at Pethor, which is by the river in the land of his people. They were to call him, saying, 'Look, a people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and are settling next to me.'
