14So he took him to the field of Zophim on the top of Pisgah. There he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
34Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, 'I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back.'
35The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, 'Go with the men, but speak only what I tell you.' So Balaam went with Balak's officials.
36When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite city on the Arnon border, at the edge of his territory.
37Balak said to Balaam, 'Did I not send messengers to you to summon you? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I really unable to reward you?
38Balaam said to Balak, 'Well, I have come to you now. But I cannot say just anything. I must speak only what God puts in my mouth.'
39Then Balaam went with Balak to Kiriath Huzoth.
40Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep and gave some to Balaam and the officials who were with him.
41The next morning, Balak took Balaam and brought him up to Bamoth-baal, from where he could see the outskirts of the people.
16They came to Balaam and said to him, 'This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Please do not let anything prevent you from coming to me.'
17'For I will reward you very handsomely and will do whatever you say. So please come and put a curse on these people for me.'
18But Balaam answered Balak's servants, 'Even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the LORD my God to do anything small or great.'
19Now please stay here tonight as well, so that I may find out what else the LORD may say to me.
20That night God came to Balaam and said, 'Since these men have come to summon you, go with them. But do only what I tell you.'
7The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them payment for divination. They came to Balaam and told him Balak's message.
8Balaam said to them, 'Spend the night here, and I will bring back a word to you, as the LORD speaks to me.' So the Moabite leaders stayed with Balaam.
9Then God came to Balaam and asked, 'Who are these men with you?'
10Balaam said to God, 'Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent this message to me:
11Now leave and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded.'
12Balaam answered Balak, 'Did I not tell your messengers that you sent to me,'
13'Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the command of the LORD, to do anything good or bad of my own will. What the LORD says, that I will speak.'
13The next morning, Balaam got up and said to Balak’s officials, 'Go back to your own country, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you.'
14So the Moabite leaders returned to Balak and said, 'Balaam refused to come with us.'
25Then Balaam got up and returned to his home, and Balak also went on his way.
1When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not resort to seeking omens as he had done before, but he turned his face toward the wilderness.
5He sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor at Pethor, which is by the river in the land of his people. They were to call him, saying, 'Look, a people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and are settling next to me.'
42This will be a regular burnt offering throughout your generations at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak with you.
31Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.
