For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.' 15 Again, the voice came to him a second time, saying, 'What God has made clean, you must not call common.' 16 This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into heaven. 17 While Peter was deeply perplexed about what the vision he had seen might mean, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius had asked for Simon’s house and stood at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon, also known as Peter, was staying there as a guest. 19 While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, 'Behold, three men are looking for you.' 20 Now rise, go down, and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them. 21 So Peter went down to the men and said, 'Behold, I am the one you are looking for. Why have you come?' 22 They replied, 'Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man who is well-spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear what you have to say.' 23 So Peter invited them in as his guests. The next day he got up and went with them. Some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him. 24 The following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them and had called together his relatives and close friends. 25 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell at his feet, and worshiped him. 26 But Peter lifted him up and said, 'Stand up! I myself am also a man.' 27 While talking with him, Peter went inside and found many people gathered. 28 He said to them, 'You know it is forbidden for a Jewish man to associate with or visit a foreigner, but God has shown me that I must not call any person common or unclean.' 29 That is why I came without objection when I was sent for. Now may I ask why you sent for me? 30 Cornelius replied, 'Four days ago at this very hour, I was fasting and praying in my house at three in the afternoon, and suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me. 31 He said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your acts of charity have been remembered before God. 32 Send someone to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter. He is staying as a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.' 33 So immediately, I sent for you, and you were kind enough to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to say.
