    20When David went home to pronounce a blessing on his own house, Michal, Saul’s daughter, came out to meet him. She said,“How the king of Israel has distinguished himself this day! He has exposed himself today before his servants’ slave girls the way a vulgar fool might do!”

    21David replied to Michal,“It was before the LORD! I was celebrating before the LORD, who chose me over your father and his entire family and appointed me as leader over the LORD’s people Israel.

    22Then Saul instructed his servants,“Tell David secretly,‘The king is pleased with you, and all his servants like you. So now become the king’s son-in-law.”

    23So Saul’s servants spoke these words privately to David. David replied,“Is becoming the king’s son-in-law something insignificant to you? I’m just a poor and lightly-esteemed man!”

    16David Praises God King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said:“Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you should have brought me to this point?

    17And you did not stop there, O God! You have also spoken about the future of your servant’s family. You have revealed to me what men long to know, O LORD God.

    18What more can David say to you? You have honored your servant; you have given your servant special recognition.

    18David Offers a Prayer to God King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said,“Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you should have brought me to this point?

    19And you didn’t stop there, O LORD God! You have also spoken about the future of your servant’s family. Is this your usual way of dealing with men, O Sovereign LORD?

    20What more can David say to you? You have given your servant special recognition, O Sovereign LORD!

    17Then Saul said to David,“Here’s my oldest daughter, Merab. I want to give her to you in marriage. Only be a brave warrior for me and fight the battles of the LORD.”For Saul thought,“There’s no need for me to raise my hand against him. Let it be the hand of the Philistines!”

    18David said to Saul,“Who am I? Who are my relatives or the clan of my father in Israel that I should become the king’s son-in-law?”

  • 30Saul again replied,“I have sinned. But please honor me before the elders of my people and before Israel. Go back with me so I may worship the LORD your God.”

  • 15Was it just today that I began to inquire of God on his behalf? Far be it from me! The king should not accuse his servant or any of my father’s house. For your servant is not aware of all this– not in whole or in part!”

  • 8For I made this vow when I was living in Geshur in Aram:‘If the LORD really does allow me to return to Jerusalem, I will serve the LORD.

  • 19Moreover, whom should I serve? Should it not be his son? Just as I served your father, so I will serve you.”

  • 8You must be loyal to your servant, for you have made a covenant with your servant in the LORD’s name. If I am guilty, you yourself kill me! Why bother taking me to your father?”

  • 25You are the reason I offer praise in the great assembly; I will fulfill my promises before the LORD’s loyal followers.
