“Therefore this is what the LORD says:‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the streets and your sons and daughters will die violently. Your land will be given to others and you will die in a foreign land. Israel will certainly be carried into exile away from its land.’”

    1Jeremiah Forbidden to Marry, to Mourn, or to Feast The LORD’s message came to me,

    2“Do not get married and do not have children here in this land.

    3For I, the LORD, tell you what will happen to the children who are born here in this land and to the men and women who are their mothers and fathers.

  • 4You will lose your hold on the land which I gave to you as a permanent possession. I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you know nothing about. For you have made my anger burn like a fire that will never be put out.”

It will seem as if the sun had set while it was still day. She will suffer shame and humiliation. I will cause any of them who are still left alive to be killed in war by the onslaughts of their enemies,” says the LORD.

  • 24and my anger will burn and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives will be widows and your children will be fatherless.

  • 1“If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and becomes another man’s wife, he may not take her back again. Doing that would utterly defile the land. But you, Israel, have given yourself as a prostitute to many gods. So what makes you think you can return to me?” says the LORD.

  • 21Say to the house of Israel,‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Realize I am about to desecrate my sanctuary– the source of your confident pride, the object in which your eyes delight, and your life’s passion. Your very own sons and daughters whom you have left behind will die by the sword.

  • 15The sword is outside; pestilence and famine are inside the house. Whoever is in the open field will die by the sword, and famine and pestilence will consume everyone in the city.

  • 22So now be very sure of this: You will die from war, starvation, or disease in the place where you want to go and live.”
