When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said,“What is this that you are doing for the people? Why are you sitting by yourself, and all the people stand around you from morning until evening?”

    22They will judge the people under normal circumstances, and every difficult case they will bring to you, but every small case they themselves will judge, so that you may make it easier for yourself, and they will bear the burden with you.

    23If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people will be able to go home satisfied.”

    24Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he had said.

    25Moses chose capable men from all Israel, and he made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

    26They judged the people under normal circumstances; the difficult cases they would bring to Moses, but every small case they would judge themselves.

    27Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and so Jethro went to his own land.

    9Jethro rejoiced because of all the good that the LORD had done for Israel, whom he had delivered from the hand of Egypt.

    10Jethro said,“Blessed be the LORD who has delivered you from the hand of Egypt, and from the hand of Pharaoh, who has delivered the people from the Egyptians’ control!

  • 29The Appeal to Hobab Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law,“We are journeying to the place about which the LORD said,‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things for Israel.”

  • 11But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God and said,“O LORD, why does your anger burn against your people, whom you have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

  • 4The king of Egypt said to them,“Moses and Aaron, why do you cause the people to refrain from their work? Return to your labor!”

  • 8And when Moses went out to the tent, all the people would get up and stand at the entrance to their tents and watch Moses until he entered the tent.

  • 11Moreover, Moses commanded the people that day:
