1The Sin of the Golden Calf When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said to him,“Get up, make us gods that will go before us. As for this fellow Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him!”
23If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people will be able to go home satisfied.”
24Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he had said.

14When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said,“What is this that you are doing for the people? Why are you sitting by yourself, and all the people stand around you from morning until evening?”
15Moses said to his father-in-law,“Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
16The Response of God The LORD said to Moses,“Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know are elders of the people and officials over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting; let them take their position there with you.
14Then the LORD became angry with Moses, and he said,“What about your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he can speak very well. Moreover, he is coming to meet you, and when he sees you he will be glad in his heart.
15Then Moses spoke to the LORD:
21And he will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will seek counsel for him before the LORD by the decision of the Urim. At his command they will go out, and at his command they will come in, he and all the Israelites with him, the whole community.”
22So Moses did as the LORD commanded him; he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before the whole community.
43Then Moses and Aaron stood before the tent of meeting.
40saying to Aaron,‘Make us gods who will go in front of us, for this Moses, who led us out of the land of Egypt– we do not know what has happened to him!’

9If they say to us,‘Stay put until we approach you,’ we will stay right there and not go up to them.
8And when Moses went out to the tent, all the people would get up and stand at the entrance to their tents and watch Moses until he entered the tent.
26So Moses stood at the entrance of the camp and said,“Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” All the Levites gathered around him,
17Just as we obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. But may the LORD your God be with you as he was with Moses!
48Then the officers who were over the thousands of the army, the commanders over thousands and the commanders over hundreds, approached Moses
