  • 1Opposition to the Building Efforts When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin learned that the former exiles were building a temple for the LORD God of Israel,

  • 6Therefore he told me,“This is the LORD’s message to Zerubbabel:‘Not by strength and not by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.”

  • 7Leave the work on this temple of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this temple of God in its proper place.

  • 11They responded to us in the following way:‘We are servants of the God of heaven and earth. We are rebuilding the temple which was previously built many years ago. A great king of Israel built it and completed it.

  • 6From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD. However, the LORD’s temple was not at that time established.

  • 9We inquired of those elders, asking them,‘Who gave you the authority to rebuild this temple and to complete this structure?’

  • 4The message of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies then came to me,

  • 15Then those who are far away will come and build the temple of the LORD so that you may know that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has sent me to you. This will all come to pass if you completely obey the voice of the LORD your God.”’”

  • 12Then say to him,‘The LORD of Heaven’s Armies says,“Look– here is the man whose name is Branch, who will sprout up from his place and build the temple of the LORD.

  • 37In the month Ziv of the fourth year of Solomon’s reign the foundation was laid for the LORD’s temple.

  • 7I will also shake up all the nations, and they will offer their treasures; then I will fill this temple with glory.” So the LORD of Heaven’s Armies has said.
