    31When you built your chamber at the head of every street and put up your pavilion in every public square, you were not like a prostitute, because you scoffed at payment.

    33All prostitutes receive payment, but instead you give gifts to every one of your lovers. You bribe them to come to you from all around for your sexual favors!

    34You were different from other prostitutes because no one solicited you. When you gave payment and no payment was given to you, you became the opposite!

    35“‘Therefore O prostitute, Listen to the LORD’s message:

  • 6Lest she should make level the path leading to life, her paths have wandered, but she is not able to discern it.

  • 33Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will speak perverse things.

  • 20But, you have been unfaithful to me, nation of Israel, like an unfaithful wife who has left her husband,” says the LORD.

  • 43“‘Because you did not remember the days of your youth and have enraged me with all these deeds, I hereby repay you for what you have done, declares the Sovereign LORD. Have you not engaged in prostitution on top of all your other abominable practices?

  • 14Yet you ask,“Why?” The LORD is testifying against you on behalf of the wife you married when you were young, to whom you have become unfaithful even though she is your companion and wife by law.

  • 35“Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you have forgotten me and completely disregarded me, you must bear now the punishment for your obscene conduct and prostitution.”

  • 9You wrongly evict widows among my people from their cherished homes. You defraud their children of their prized inheritance.

  • 20So you will walk in the way of good people, and will keep on the paths of the righteous.
