18But one after another they all began to make excuses. The first said to him,‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please excuse me.’
20Another said,‘I just got married, and I cannot come.’
21So the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the master of the household was furious and said to his slave,‘Go out quickly to the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’
22Then the slave said,‘Sir, what you instructed has been done, and there is still room.’
23So the master said to his slave,‘Go out to the highways and country roads and urge people to come in, so that my house will be filled.
2“The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.
3He sent his slaves to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.
4Again he sent other slaves, saying,‘Tell those who have been invited,“Look! The feast I have prepared for you is ready. My oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”’
5But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
7On Seeking Seats of Honor Then when Jesus noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. He said to them,
8“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, because a person more distinguished than you may have been invited by your host.
9So the host who invited both of you will come and say to you,‘Give this man your place.’ Then, ashamed, you will begin to move to the least important place.
10But when you are invited, go and take the least important place, so that when your host approaches he will say to you,‘Friend, move up here to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who share the meal with you.
8Then he said to his slaves,‘The wedding is ready, but the ones who had been invited were not worthy.
9So go into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’
10And those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12And he said to him,‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say.
13Then the king said to his attendants,‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’
14For many are called, but few are chosen.”
7“Would any one of you say to your slave who comes in from the field after plowing or shepherding sheep,‘Come at once and sit down for a meal’?
8Won’t the master instead say to him,‘Get my dinner ready, and make yourself ready to serve me while I eat and drink. Then you may eat and drink’?
25Counting the Cost Now large crowds were accompanying Jesus, and turning to them he said,
29Then people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and take their places at the banquet table in the kingdom of God.
11and tell the owner of the house,‘The Teacher says to you,“Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’
20Now when you come together at the same place, you are not really eating the Lord’s Supper.
21For when it is time to eat, everyone proceeds with his own supper. One is hungry and another becomes drunk.
14Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house,‘The Teacher says,“Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’
24“Exert every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
25Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, then you will stand outside and start to knock on the door and beg him,‘Lord, let us in!’ But he will answer you,‘I don’t know where you come from.’
26Then you will begin to say,‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’
37Blessed are those slaves whom their master finds alert when he returns! I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, have them take their place at the table, and will come and wait on them!
18He said,“Go into the city to a certain man and tell him,‘The Teacher says,“My time is near. I will observe the Passover with my disciples at your house.”’”
16For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
49and he begins to beat his fellow slaves and to eat and drink with drunkards,
50then the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not foresee,
18While they were at the table eating, Jesus said,“I tell you the truth, one of you eating with me will betray me.”
30that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
27For who is greater, the one who is seated at the table, or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is seated at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
46then the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not foresee, and will cut him in two, and assign him a place with the unfaithful.
9They said to him,“Where do you want us to prepare it?”
30And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
16So the last will be first, and the first last.”
14The Lord’s Supper Now when the hour came, Jesus took his place at the table and the apostles joined him.
