2“The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son.
3He sent his slaves to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.
5But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
6The rest seized his slaves, insolently mistreated them, and killed them.
7The king was furious! He sent his soldiers, and they put those murderers to death and set their city on fire.
8Then he said to his slaves,‘The wedding is ready, but the ones who had been invited were not worthy.
9So go into the main streets and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.’

11But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.
12And he said to him,‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say.
13Then the king said to his attendants,‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’
14For many are called, but few are chosen.”
16But Jesus said to him,“A man once gave a great banquet and invited many guests.
17At the time for the banquet he sent his slave to tell those who had been invited,‘Come, because everything is now ready.’
18But one after another they all began to make excuses. The first said to him,‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please excuse me.’
19Another said,‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going out to examine them. Please excuse me.’
20Another said,‘I just got married, and I cannot come.’
21So the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the master of the household was furious and said to his slave,‘Go out quickly to the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’
22Then the slave said,‘Sir, what you instructed has been done, and there is still room.’

24For I tell you, not one of those individuals who were invited will taste my banquet!’”
10But while they had gone to buy it, the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding banquet. Then the door was shut.

34When the harvest time was near, he sent his slaves to the tenants to collect his portion of the crop.
35But the tenants seized his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another.
36Again he sent other slaves, more than the first, and they treated them the same way.
7On Seeking Seats of Honor Then when Jesus noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. He said to them,

45But if that slave should say to himself,‘My master is delayed in returning,’ and he begins to beat the other slaves, both men and women, and to eat, drink, and get drunk,
46then the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not foresee, and will cut him in two, and assign him a place with the unfaithful.
49and he begins to beat his fellow slaves and to eat and drink with drunkards,

5He sent another, and that one they killed. This happened to many others, some of whom were beaten, others killed.
