1Responsibilities of the Priests The LORD said to Aaron,“You and your sons and your tribe with you must bear the iniquity of the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you must bear the iniquity of your priesthood.
2“Bring with you your brothers, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, so that they may join with you and minister to you while you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony.
3They must be responsible to care for you and to care for the entire tabernacle. However, they must not come near the furnishings of the sanctuary and the altar, or both they and you will die.
5The Assignment of the Levites The LORD spoke to Moses:
6“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.
6I myself have chosen your brothers the Levites from among the Israelites. They are given to you as a gift from the LORD, to perform the duties of the tent of meeting.
7But you and your sons with you are responsible for your priestly duties, for everything at the altar and within the curtain. And you must serve. I give you the priesthood as a gift for service, but the unauthorized person who approaches must be put to death.”
11Therefore you and all your company have assembled together against the LORD! And Aaron– what is he that you murmur against him?”
9But you banished the LORD’s priests, Aaron’s descendants, and the Levites, and appointed your own priests just as the surrounding nations do! Anyone who comes to consecrate himself with a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of these fake gods!
10But as for us, the LORD is our God and we have not rejected him. Aaron’s descendants serve as the LORD’s priests and the Levites assist them with the work.
1The Clothing of the Priests“And you, bring near to you your brother Aaron and his sons with him from among the Israelites, so that they may minister as my priests– Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.
9You are to bring the Levites before the tent of meeting and assemble the entire community of the Israelites.
10Then you are to bring the Levites before the LORD, and the Israelites are to lay their hands on the Levites;
11and Aaron is to offer the Levites before the LORD as a wave offering from the Israelites, that they may do the work of the LORD.
9You are to assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they will be assigned exclusively to him out of all the Israelites.
10So you are to appoint Aaron and his sons, and they will be responsible for their priesthood, but the unauthorized person who comes near must be put to death.”
11Then the LORD spoke to Moses:
9Therefore Levi has no allotment or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance just as the LORD your God told him.

6Suppose a Levite comes by his own free will from one of your villages, from any part of Israel where he is living, to the place the LORD chooses

12He told them:“You are the leaders of the Levites’ families. You and your relatives must consecrate yourselves and bring the ark of the LORD God of Israel up to the place I have prepared for it.
13You are to have the Levites stand before Aaron and his sons, and then offer them as a wave offering to the LORD.
14And so you are to separate the Levites from among the Israelites, and the Levites will be mine.
15“After this, the Levites will go in to do the work of the tent of meeting. So you must cleanse them and offer them like a wave offering.
28I chose your ancestor from all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer sacrifice on my altar, to burn incense, and to bear the ephod before me. I gave to your ancestor’s house all the fire offerings made by the Israelites.
41“You are to clothe them– your brother Aaron and his sons with him– and anoint them and ordain them and set them apart as holy, so that they may minister as my priests.
5And those of the sons of Levi who receive the priestly office have authorization according to the law to collect a tithe from the people, that is, from their fellow countrymen, although they too are descendants of Abraham.
11My sons, do not be negligent now, for the LORD has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him, to be his ministers, and offer sacrifices.”
6and you will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you will speak to the Israelites.”
19They said to him,“Shut up! Put your hand over your mouth and come with us! You can be our adviser and priest. Wouldn’t it be better to be a priest for a whole Israelite tribe than for just one man’s family?”
1The Sacrilege of the Priestly Message“Now, you priests, this commandment is for you.
16Then Moses said to Korah,“You and all your company present yourselves before the LORD– you and they, and Aaron– tomorrow.
28Thus you are to offer up a raised offering to the LORD of all your tithes which you receive from the Israelites; and you must give the LORD’s raised offering from it to Aaron the priest.
26So Moses stood at the entrance of the camp and said,“Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” All the Levites gathered around him,
3And they assembled against Moses and Aaron, saying to them,“You take too much upon yourselves, seeing that the whole community is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the community of the LORD.
50But appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, over all its furnishings and over everything in it. They must carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they must attend to it and camp around it.
17Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron:
38A priest of Aaron’s line will be with the Levites when the Levites collect the tithes, and the Levites will bring up a tenth of the tithes to the temple of our God, to the storerooms of the treasury.
19but in order that they will live and not die when they approach the most holy things, do this for them: Aaron and his sons will go in and appoint each man to his service and his responsibility.
13When you have seen it, you will be gathered to your ancestors, as Aaron your brother was gathered to his ancestors.
20Then you must delegate some of your authority to him, so that the whole community of the Israelites will be obedient.
22After this, the Levites went in to do their work in the tent of meeting before Aaron and before his sons. As the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did.
19I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites, to do the work for the Israelites in the tent of meeting, and to make atonement for the Israelites, so there will be no plague among the Israelites when the Israelites come near the sanctuary.”
5So they took what Moses had commanded to the front of the Meeting Tent and the whole congregation presented them and stood before the LORD.
30“You are to anoint Aaron and his sons and sanctify them, so that they may minister as my priests.
13Then you are to clothe Aaron with the holy garments and anoint him and sanctify him so that he may minister as my priest.
