She who was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, has become a tributary! 2 She weeps bitterly in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she has none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they have become her enemies. 3 Judah has gone into captivity because of affliction and great servitude: she dwells among the heathen, she finds no rest: all her persecutors have overtaken her between the straits. 4 The ways of Zion mourn, because none come to the solemn feasts: all her gates are desolate: her priests sigh, her virgins are afflicted, and she is in bitterness. 5 Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children have gone into captivity before the enemy.

• Ps 35:15-16 : 15 But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together; yes, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they tore me, and did not cease: 16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
• Ps 35:25 : 25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, this is what we wanted; let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
