- Ps 105:5-9 : 5 Remember his marvelous works that he has done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; 6 O seed of Abraham his servant, you children of Jacob his chosen. 7 He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. 8 He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. 9 The covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac; 10 And confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: 11 Saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: 12 When they were but a few men in number; yes, very few, and strangers in it. 13 When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people; 14 He allowed no man to do them wrong: yes, he reproved kings for their sakes; 15 Saying, Do not touch my anointed, and do my prophets no harm. 16 Moreover, he called for a famine upon the land: he broke the whole support of bread. 17 He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold for a servant: 18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: 19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tested him. 20 The king sent and released him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. 21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his possessions: 22 To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his elders wisdom. 23 Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. 24 And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies. 25 He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal deceitfully with his servants. 26 He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. 27 They showed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham. 28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they did not rebel against his word. 29 He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fish. 30 Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings. 31 He spoke, and there came various sorts of flies, and lice in all their territory. 32 He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land. 33 He struck their vines also and their fig trees; and broke the trees of their territory. 34 He spoke, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, and that without number, 35 And ate up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. 36 He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength. 37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. 38 Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. 39 He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. 40 The people asked, and he brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. 42 For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant. 43 And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness: 44 And gave them the lands of the nations: and they inherited the labor of the people; 45 That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses. 5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Please inquire first for the word of the Lord. 6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I refrain? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the king’s hand. 7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might inquire of him? 8 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. - 2 Kgs 3:11-14 : 11 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?" And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, "Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah." 12 And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. 13 And Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother." And the king of Israel said to him, "No, for the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab." 14 And Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you, nor see you."
- 2 Kgs 22:13-14 : 13 Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not heeded the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us. 14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
- 2 Kgs 25:1-2 : 1 And it happened in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and camped against it; and they built siege works all around it. 2 And the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.
- 2 Chr 14:9-9 : 9 And Zerah the Ethiopian came against them with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and came to Mareshah. 10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, 'LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many, or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.' 12 So the LORD struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled. 13 And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar, and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover, for they were destroyed before the LORD and before His army; and they carried away very much spoil.
- 2 Chr 20:1-9 : 1 It happened after this that the children of Moab and the children of Ammon, and with them others besides the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat for battle. 2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from this side of Syria; and behold, they are in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi. 3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 And Judah gathered together to seek help from the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD. 5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, 6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven? And do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? And in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? 7 Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? 8 And they dwelt in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, 9 If disaster comes upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and in Your presence (for Your name is in this house) and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save us. 10 And now, see, the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them; 11 See, how they repay us, to come to cast us out of Your possession, which You have given us to inherit. 12 O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great company that comes against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You. 13 And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. 14 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly; 15 And he said, Listen, all Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat, Thus says the LORD to you: Do not be afraid or dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. 16 Tomorrow go down against them. See, they come up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the wilderness of Jeruel. 17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you. 18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshiping the LORD. 19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high. 20 And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa. And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper. 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying, Praise the LORD, for His mercy endures forever. 22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen on the earth; no one had escaped. 25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much. 26 And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, for there they blessed the LORD; therefore the name of that place was called the Valley of Berachah until this day. 27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies. 28 So they came to Jerusalem with stringed instruments, harps, and trumpets, to the house of the LORD. 29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.
- 2 Chr 32:21 : 21 And the LORD sent an angel who destroyed all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame on his face to his own land. And when he entered the house of his god, his own sons killed him with the sword there.
- 1 Sam 7:10-12 : 10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and confused them; and they were defeated before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth-car. 12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and named it Ebenezer, saying, Thus far the LORD has helped us.

- 1 Sam 14:6-9 : 6 Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, "Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us, for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few." 7 His armorbearer said to him, "Do all that is in your heart; turn yourself, here I am with you according to your heart." 8 Then Jonathan said, "Behold, we will cross over to these men, and we will reveal ourselves to them." 9 If they say to us, 'Wait until we come to you,' then we will stand still in our place and not go up to them. 10 But if they say, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up, for the LORD has delivered them into our hand; and this will be a sign to us." 11 Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines, and the Philistines said, "Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hidden themselves." 12 The men of the garrison called to Jonathan and his armorbearer and said, "Come up to us, and we will show you something." Jonathan said to his armorbearer, "Come up after me, for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel." 13 Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, and his armorbearer after him, and they fell before Jonathan, and his armorbearer killed them after him. 14 That first slaughter which Jonathan and his armorbearer made was about twenty men within about half an acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.
- 1 Sam 17:45-50 : 45 Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. I will give the bodies of the Philistine army this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands. 48 When the Philistine arose and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine in the forehead, and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone and struck the Philistine, and killed him. There was no sword in David's hand.
- Jer 38:14-27 : 14 Then Zedekiah the king sent and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD; and the king said to Jeremiah, I will ask you a thing; hide nothing from me. 15 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, will you not listen to me? 16 So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, nor will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life. 17 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Thus says the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If you will assuredly go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire, and you shall live, and your house. 18 But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand. 19 And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. 20 But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver you. Obey, I beg you, the voice of the LORD, which I speak to you: so it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live. 21 But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD has shown me: 22 And, behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes, and those women shall say, Your friends have set you on and have prevailed against you; your feet are sunk in the mire, and they have turned away back. 23 So they shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape from their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon; and you shall cause this city to be burned with fire. 24 Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die. 25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and say to you, Declare to us now what you have said to the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you: 26 Then you shall say to them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there. 27 Then all the princes came to Jeremiah and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they stopped speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
- Jer 39:1-2 : 1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army came against Jerusalem, and they besieged it. 2 And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the city was broken into.
- Jer 52:3-6 : 3 For through the anger of the LORD it happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and camped against it, and built forts against it all around. 5 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 6 And in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
- Ezek 14:3-7 : 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces: should I be inquired of at all by them? 4 Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him who comes according to the multitude of his idols; 5 That I may seize the house of Israel in their own hearts because they are all estranged from me through their idols. 6 Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: Repent, and turn from your idols and turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger who sojourns in Israel, who separates himself from me and sets up his idols in his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to a prophet to inquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:
- Exod 14:1-9 : 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn and camp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baalzephon: before it you shall camp by the sea. 3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are trapped in the land, the wilderness has shut them in. 4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall pursue them; and I will be honored upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so. 5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us? 6 And he prepared his chariot, and took his people with him: 7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over each of them. 8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with boldness. 9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon. 10 And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were greatly afraid: and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD. 11 And they said to Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? why have you dealt with us in this way, to bring us out of Egypt? 12 Is not this the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than to die in the wilderness. 13 And Moses said to the people, Do not fear, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them again no more forever. 14 The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. 15 And the LORD said to Moses, Why do you cry to me? speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward:
- Josh 10:1-9 : 1 Now it happened, when Adonizedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and utterly destroyed it—just as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king—and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them, 2 that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty. 3 So Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying, 4 Come up to me and help me, so that we may attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel. 5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites—the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon—gathered themselves together and went up, they and all their armies, and encamped before Gibeon and made war against it. 6 And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal, saying, Do not let your hand be slack from your servants; come up to us quickly, and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the mountains have gathered together against us. 7 So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor. 8 And the LORD said to Joshua, Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you. 9 Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly, having marched all night from Gilgal. 10 And the LORD threw them into confusion before Israel and killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the road that goes to Beth Horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah. 11 And it happened, as they fled from Israel and were on the descent to Beth Horon, that the LORD cast great stones from heaven upon them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.
- Judg 4:1-5 : 1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, after Ehud died. 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; the commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth of the Gentiles. 3 And the children of Israel cried to the LORD, for Sisera had nine hundred chariots of iron, and for twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel. 4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. 5 And she sat under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
