  • Num 16:1-9 : 1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men. 2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the assembly, distinguished in the congregation, men of renown. 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, You take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: why then do you lift yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? 4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face. 5 And he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, Tomorrow the LORD will show who are His, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near to Him: even him whom He has chosen will He cause to come near to Him. 6 This do; Take your censers, Korah, and all his company. 7 And put fire in them, and put incense in them before the LORD tomorrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD chooses, he shall be holy: you take too much upon you, sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear, I pray you, sons of Levi. 9 Does it seem like a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them? 10 And He has brought you near to Him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you: and do you seek the priesthood also? 11 For this cause, both you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that you complain against him? 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: who said, We will not come up. 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, unless you make yourself altogether a prince over us? 14 Moreover, you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up. 15 And Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, Respect not their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I harmed one of them. 16 And Moses said to Korah, Be here with all your company before the LORD, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow. 17 And take each man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring them before the LORD, each man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each of you his censer. 18 And they took each man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense on them, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron. 19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation. 20 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. 22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will You be angry with all the congregation? 23 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 Speak to the congregation, saying, Depart from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. 25 And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. 26 And he spoke to the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins. 27 So they got up from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, with their wives, their sons, and their little children. 28 And Moses said, Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own will. 29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they are visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD has not sent me. 30 But if the LORD makes a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth, and swallows them up, with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. 31 And it came to pass, when he had finished speaking all these words, that the ground split apart that was under them. 32 And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, with their houses, and all the men that belonged to Korah, and all their goods. 33 They, and all that belonged to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. 34 And all Israel that were around them fled at their cry: for they said, Lest the earth swallows us up also. 35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

  • Num 22:1-9 : 1 And the children of Israel set out, and camped in the plains of Moab on this side of the Jordan by Jericho. 2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. 3 And Moab was very afraid of the people, because they were many; and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel. 4 And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now this company will lick up all around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time. 5 He sent messengers therefore to Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Look, a people has come out of Egypt; see, they cover the face of the earth, and they dwell opposite me. 6 Come now therefore, I pray you, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me: perhaps I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed. 7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand, and they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak. 8 And he said to them, Stay here this night, and I will bring word again to you, as the LORD shall speak to me: and the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam. 9 And God came to Balaam, and said, Who are these men with you? 10 And Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying, 11 Look, a people has come out of Egypt, which covers the face of the earth; come now, curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out. 12 And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people: for they are blessed. 13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, Go back to your land: for the LORD refuses to let me go with you. 14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us. 15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honorable than they. 16 And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray you, hinder you from coming to me: 17 For I will promote you to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me: come therefore, I pray you, curse this people for me. 18 And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more. 19 Now therefore, I pray you, stay here this night also, that I may know what more the LORD will say to me. 20 And God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, and go with them; but only the word which I shall say to you, that shall you do. 21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab. 22 And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. 23 And the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand, and the donkey turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the way. 24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side and a wall on that side.
