He put two of Jacob’s fingers on his eyes and blessed the God of gods. He covered his face, streched out his feet, fell asleep forever, and was gathered to his ancestors.

During all of this Jacob was lying in his bosom and was unaware that his grandfather Abraham had died.

Da Jakob våknet fra søvnen, fant han Abraham kald som is. Han sa: 'Far, far!' Men han svarte ham ikke. Da forstod han at han var død.

When Jacob awakened from his sleep, there was Abraham cold as ice. He said: ‘Father, father’! But he said nothing to him. Then he knew that he was dead.

He got up from his bosom and ran and told his mother Rebecca. Rebecca went to Isaac at night and told him. They went together — and Jacob with them (carrying) a lamp in his hands. When they came they found Abraham’s corpse lying (there).

Isak kastet seg over sin fars ansikt, gråt, og kysset ham.

Isaac fell on his father’s face, cried, and kissed him.

Da nyheten nådde Abrahams husholdning, dro sønnen Ismael og kom til sin far Abraham. Han sørget over sin far Abraham, han og hele Abrahams husholdning. De sørget meget.

After the report was heard in the household of Abraham, his son Ishmael set out and came to his father Abraham. He mourned for his father Abraham — he and all Abraham’s household. They mourned very much.

Begge sønnene, Isak og Ismael, begravde ham i dobbeltgrotten ved siden av hans kone Sara. Hele hans husholdning, samt Isak, Ismael, og alle deres sønner, og Keturahs sønner i deres område, sørget over ham i førti dager. Da var den sørgmodige sorgen for Abraham fullendt.

They — both of his sons Isaac and Ishmael — buried him in the double cave near his wife Sarah. All the people of his household as well as Isaac, Ishmael, and all their sons and Keturah’s sons in their places mourned for him for 40 days. Then the tearful mourning for Abraham was completed.

Han hadde levd tre jubelår og fire uker av år — 175 år — da han fullendte sitt liv. Han hadde blitt gammel og tiden hans var omme.

He had lived for three jubilees and four weeks of years — 175 years — when he completed his lifetime. He had grown old and (his) time was completed.

For de gamle tider var 19 jubelår for deres levetid. For the times of the ancients were 19 jubilees for their lifetimes. After the flood they started to decrease from 19 jubilees, to be fewer with respect to jubilees, to age quickly, and to have their times be completed in view of the numerous difficulties and through the wickedness of their ways — with the exception of Abraham.

For Abraham var fullkommen med Herren i alt han gjorde — han var behagelig hele sitt liv. Og likevel hadde han ikke fullført fire jubelår i sitt liv da han ble gammel i lyset av ondskap og nådde endetiden.

For Abraham was perfect with the Lord in everything that he did — being properly pleasing throughout all his lifetime. And yet (even) he had not completed four jubilees during his lifetime when he became old — in view of wickedness — and reached the end of his time.

Alle generasjoner som vil oppstå fra nå av til dommens store dag vil eldes raskt, før de fullfører to jubelår. Deres kunnskap vil forlate dem på grunn av deres alderdom; all deres kunnskap vil forsvinne.

All the generations that will come into being from now until the great day of judgment will grow old quickly — before they complete two jubilees. It will be their knowledge that will leave them because of their old age; all of their knowledge will depart.

At that time, if a man lives a jubilee and one-half of years, it will be said about him: ‘He has lived for a long time’. But the greater part of his time will be (characterized by) difficulties, toil, and distress without peace,

because (there will be) blow upon blow, wound upon wound, distress upon distress, bad news upon bad news, disease upon disease, and every (kind of) bad punishment like this, one with the other: disease and stomach pains; snow, hail, and frost; fever, cold, and numbness; famine, death, sword, captivity, and every (sort of) blow and difficulty.

Alt dette vil skje på den onde generasjonen som får jorden til å synde gjennom seksuell urenhet, forurensning, og deres avskyelige handlinger.

All of this will happen to the evil generation which makes the earth commit sin through sexual impurity, contamination, and their detestable actions.

Da vil det bli sagt: 'De gamles dager var mange — like mange som 1000 år — og gode. Men nå er våre livs dager, hvis en mann har levd lenge, 70 år, og hvis han er sterk, 80 år'. Alle er onde og det er ingen fred i den onde generasjonen.

Then it will be said: ‘The days of the ancients were numerous — as many as 1000 years — and good. But now the days of our lives, if a man has lived for a long time, are 70 years, and, if he is strong, 80 years’. All are evil and there is no peace during the days of that evil generation.

I den generasjonen vil barna finne feil hos sine fedre og eldste på grunn av synd og urettferdighet, på grunn av hva de sier og de store ondskapene de begår, og fordi de har forlatt pakten som Herren hadde opprettet mellom dem og seg selv, slik at de skulle holde og utføre alle hans bud, forskrifter, og alle hans lover uten å avvike til venstre eller høyre.

During that generation the children will find fault with their fathers and elders because of sin and injustice, because of what they say and the great evils that they commit, and because of their abandoning the covenant which the Lord had made between them and himself so that they should observe and perform all his commands, ordinances, and all his laws without deviating to the left or right.

For alle har handlet ondt. Hver munn taler det som er syndig. Alt de gjør er urent og avskyelig. Alle deres veier er preget av forurensning og ødeleggelse.

For all have acted wickedly; every mouth speaks what is sinful. Everything that they do is impure and something detestable; all their ways are (characterized by) contamination, and corruption.

The earth will indeed be destroyed because of all that they do. There will be no produce from the vine and no oil because what they do (constitutes) complete disobedience. All will be destroyed together — animals, cattle, birds, and all fish of the sea — because of mankind.

En gruppe vil kjempe med en annen — de unge med de gamle, de gamle med de unge; de fattige med de rike, de lave med de store; og de trengende med makthaveren — når det gjelder loven og pakten. For de har glemt budene, pakten, festdagene, måneden, sabbaten, jubelåret, og alle vedtak.

One group will struggle with another — the young with the old, the old with the young; the poor with the rich, the lowly with the great; and the needy with the ruler — regarding the law and the covenant. For they have forgotten commandment, covenant, festival, month, sabbath, jubilee, and every verdict.

De vil gripe til våpen og krig for å føre dem tilbake til veien; men de vil ikke bli brakt tilbake før mye blod blir utgytt på jorden av hver gruppe.

They will stand up with swords and warfare in order to bring them back to the way; but they will not be brought back until much blood is shed on the earth by each group.

De som flykter vil ikke vende seg fra sin ondskap til den rette veien fordi alle vil heve seg for (hensikten med) å bedra og gjennom rikdom for å ta alt som tilhører en annen. De vil nevne det store navnet, men verken sant eller rett. De vil vanhellige det hellige med den urene forurensningen av deres tilsmussing.

Those who escape will not turn from their wickedness to the right way because all of them will elevate themselves for (the purpose of) cheating and through wealth so that one takes everything that belongs to another. They will mention the great name but neither truly nor rightly. They will defile the holy of hohes with the impure corruption of their contamination.

Det vil være en stor straff fra Herren for handlingene til den generasjonen. Han vil overlvere dem til sverdet, dom, fangenskap, plyndring og fortæring.

There will be a great punishment from the Lord for the actions of that generation. He will deliver them to the sword, judgment, captivity, plundering, and devouring.

Han vil reise de syndige nasjonene mot dem som ikke vil vise dem nåde eller vennlighet og som ikke vil vise partiskhet for noen, verken gammel, ung, eller noen i det hele tatt, fordi de er onde og sterke så at de er mer onde enn alle mennesker. De vil forårsake kaos i Israel og synde mot Jakob. Mye blod vil bli utgytt på jorden, og det vil ikke være noen som samler opp likene eller som begraver dem.

He will arouse against them the sinful nations who will have no mercy or kindness for them and who will show partiality to no one, whether old, young, or anyone at all, because they are evil and strong so that they are more evil than all mankind. They will cause chaos in Israel and sin against Jacob. Much blood will be shed on the earth, and there will be no one who gathers up (corpses) or who buries (them).

På den tiden vil de rope og kalle og be om å bli reddet fra makten til de syndige nasjonene, men det vil ikke være noen som redder dem.

At that time they will cry out and call and pray to be rescued from the power of the sinful nations, but there will be no one who rescues (them).

Barnas hoder vil bli hvite av grått hår. Et barn som er tre uker gammelt vil se gammelt ut som en som er hundre år, og tilstanden deres vil bli ødelagt gjennom nød og smerte.

The children’s heads will turn white with gray hair. A child who is three weeks of age will look old like one whose years are 100, and their condition will be destroyed through distress and pain.

I de dager vil barna begynne å studere lovene, oppsøke budene, og vende tilbake til den rette veien.

In those days the children will begin to study the laws, to seek out the commands, and to return to the right way.

Dagene vil begynne å bli mange og øke, og menneskene også — generasjon for generasjon og dag for dag inntil deres livstider nærmer seg 1000 år og flere år enn antall dager hadde vært.

The days will begin to become numerous and increase, and mankind as well — generation by generation and day by day until their lifetimes approach 1000 years and to more years than the number of days (had been).

Det vil verken være en gammel mann eller noen som har levd ut sin levetid, for alle vil være spædbarn og barn.

There will be no old man, nor anyone who has lived out his lifetime, because all of them will be infants and children.

De vil fullføre og leve hele sine livsløp i fred og glede. Det vil verken være en satan eller noen ond som ville ødelegge. For hele deres livstider vil være tider med velsignelse og helbredelse.

They will complete and live their entire lifetimes peacefully and joyfully. There will be neither a satan nor any evil one who will destroy. For their entire lifetimes will be times of blessing and healing.

Da vil Herren helbrede sine tjenere. De vil reise seg og se stor fred. Han vil fordrive sine fiender. De rettferdige vil se dette, tilby lovprisning og være meget glade evig og alltid. De vil se all deres straff og forbannelser på sine fiender.

Then the Lord will heal his servants. They will rise and see great peace. He will expel his enemies. The righteous will see (this), offer praise, and be very happy forever and ever. They will see all their punishments and curses on their enemies.

Deres bein vil hvile i jorden og deres ånder vil være meget glade. De vil vite at Herren er en som fullbyrder dom, men viser vennlighet til hundre og tusener og til alle som elsker ham.

Their bones will rest in the earth and their spirits will be very happy. They will know that the Lord is one who executes judgment but shows kindness to hundreds and thousands and to all who love him.

Nå, du Moses, skriv ned disse ordene, for slik står det skrevet og ført inn i vitnesbyrdet fra de himmelske tavlene for evighetens historie.

Now you, Moses, write down these words because this is how it is written and entered in the testimony of the heavenly tablets for the history of eternity.
