At that time the pharaoh had two dreams in one night about the subject of the famine which would come on the whole land. When he awakened, he summoned all the dream interpreters who were in Egypt and the enchanters. He told them his two dreams, but they were unable to understand (them).

Da husket hovedskjenkeren Josef. Etter at han hadde fortalt kongen om ham, ble han hentet fra fengselet, og han fortalte sin to drømmer i hans nærvær.

Then the chief butler remembered Joseph. After he had told the king about him, he was brought from prison and he related his two dreams in his presence.

Han sa i faraos nærvær at hans to drømmer var én. Han sa til ham: 'Syv år kommer der det vil være overflod i hele Egypts land, men deretter vil det komme en syv år lang hungersnød, en hungersnød som ikke tidligere har vært i hele landet.

He said in the pharaoh’s presence that his two dreams were one. He said to him: ‘Seven years are coming (in which there will be) abundance in the entire land of Egypt, but afterwards there will be a seven-year famine, the like of which famine has never been in the entire land.

Now let the pharaoh appoint overseers throughout the entire land of Egypt and let them store each city’s food in the city during the period of the years of abundance. Then there will be food for the seven years of famine, and the land will not be destroyed because of the famine, since it will be very severe’.

Herren ga Josef en gunstig og vennlig mottakelse i faraos øyne. Farao sa til sine tjenere: 'Vi vil ikke finne en mann så vis og kunnskapsrik som denne mannen, for Herrens ånd er med ham.'

The Lord gave Joseph a favorable and kind reception in the view of the pharaoh. The pharaoh said to his servants: ‘We will not find a man as wise and knowledgeable as this man, for the spirit of the Lord is with him’.

Han utnevnte ham som den nest øverste i hele sitt kongerike, ga ham myndighet over hele Egypt, og tillot ham å kjøre på sin andre vogn som var faraos.

He appointed him as the second (in command) in his entire kingdom, gave him authority over all Egypt, and allowed him to ride on his second chariot which was the pharaoh’s.

Han kledde ham i klær laget av lin og hang en gullkjede om hans hals. Han utropte foran ham og sa: 'El, El den Mektige av El.'

He dressed him with clothing made of hnen and hung a gold chain on his neck. He made a proclamation before him and said: ‘El, El the Mighty One of El’.

Slik ble Josef hersker over hele Egypts land. Alle faraos fyrster, alle hans tjenere, og alle som gjorde kongens arbeid, elsket ham fordi han oppførte seg rettferdig. Han var ikke arrogant, stolt eller partisk, og han godtok heller ikke bestikkelser fordi han styrte alle folkene i landet på en rettferdig måte.

So Joseph became ruler over the entire land of Egypt. All of the pharaoh’s princes, all of his servants, and all who were doing the king’s work loved him because he conducted himself in a just way. He was not arrogant, proud, or partial, nor did he accept bribes because he was ruling all the people of the land in a just way.

Egypts land levde i harmoni foran farao på grunn av Josef, for Herren var med ham. Han ga ham en gunstig og vennlig mottakelse for hele hans familie foran alle som kjente til ham og som hørte rapporter om ham. Faraos styre var rettferdig, og det var ingen satan eller noen ond.

The land of Egypt lived in harmony before the pharaoh because of Joseph for the Lord was with him. He gave him a favorable and kind reception for all his family before all who knew him and who heard reports about him. The pharaoh’s rule was just, and there was no satan or any evil one.

Kongen ga Josef navnet Sefantifanes.

På den dagen da Josef tiltrådte sin stilling hos farao, var han 30 år gammel.

On the day when Joseph took up his position with the pharaoh he was 30 years of age when he took up his position with the pharaoh.

(Isak døde det året). Ting viste seg å bli akkurat slik Josef hadde rapportert om tolkningen av sine to drømmer, akkurat som han hadde rapportert til ham. Det var syv år med overflod i hele Egypts land. Egypts land var ytterst produktivt: ett mål (ville produsere) 1800 mål.

(Isaac died that year). Things turned out just as Joseph had reported about the interpretation of his two dreams, just as he had reported to him. There were seven years of abundance in the whole land of Egypt. The land of Egypt was most productive: one measure (would produce) 1800 measures.

Josef samlet hver bys mat i byen inntil det var så fullt av korn at det var umulig å telle eller måle det på grunn av mengden.

Joseph collected (each) city’s food in the city until it was so full of wheat that it was impossible to count or measure it because of its quantity.
