  • 1 Kgs 2:22 : 22 King Solomon answered his mother, 'Why do you request Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You might as well request the kingdom for him—for he is my elder brother—yes, for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zeruiah!'
  • 1 Kgs 2:26-35 : 26 To Abiathar the priest, the king said, 'Go back to your fields in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death today because you carried the ark of the Lord GOD before my father David and because you shared in his hardships.' 27 So Solomon removed Abiathar from being a priest to the LORD, fulfilling the word the LORD had spoken at Shiloh about the house of Eli. 28 When the news reached Joab—who had supported Adonijah but not Absalom—he fled to the tent of the LORD and took hold of the horns of the altar. 29 It was reported to King Solomon that Joab had fled to the tent of the LORD and was by the altar. So Solomon sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada, saying, 'Go, strike him down!' 30 When Benaiah reached the tent of the LORD, he said to Joab, 'The king says, “Come out.”' But Joab replied, 'No, I will die here.' So Benaiah went back to the king and reported, 'This is how Joab answered me.' 31 The king said to him, 'Do as he says. Strike him down and bury him, and so remove from me and my father's house the guilt of the blood that Joab shed without cause. 32 The LORD will bring back his blood on his own head, because he struck down two men more righteous and better than himself—Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel's army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah's army—killing them with the sword without my father David knowing it. 33 Their blood will come back on the head of Joab and his descendants forever, but there will be peace from the LORD forever for David, his descendants, his house, and his throne. 34 So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up, struck down Joab, and killed him. He was buried at his house in the wilderness. 35 The king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab’s place, and Zadok the priest in place of Abiathar.

If I find favor in the LORD’s eyes, He will bring me back and let me see it and its dwelling place again.' 26 'But if He says, “I have no delight in you,” here I am—let Him do to me whatever seems good to Him.' 27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, 'Do you not see? Go back to the city in peace, with your son Ahimaaz and Jonathan, the son of Abiathar, your two sons with you.' 28 'Look, I will wait in the wilderness plains until I receive a message from you to tell me what to do.' 29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the Ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.
