- Deut 17:14-20 : 14 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you and take possession of it and settle in it, and you say, 'Let us appoint a king over us, like all the nations around us,' 15 be sure to appoint a king the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your fellow Israelites. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not an Israelite. 16 The king must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more horses, for the LORD has told you, 'You are not to go back that way again.' 17 He must not take many wives for himself, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold. 18 When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. 19 It shall remain with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to fear the LORD his God by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes to follow them. 20 In this way, his heart will not become proud above his fellow Israelites, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left. He and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in the midst of Israel.
- 1 Sam 8:11-18 : 11 He said, 'This is what the king who will reign over you will demand: He will take your sons and assign them to his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 He will appoint them as commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties. Some will plow his fields, reap his harvest, and make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields, vineyards, and olive groves and give them to his officials. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and vineyards and give it to his courtiers and servants. 16 He will take your male and female servants, your best young men, and your donkeys, and use them for his own work. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 On that day, you will cry out because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you on that day.
- Ezek 45:9-9 : 9 This is what the Lord God says: Enough, princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression and practice justice and righteousness. Remove your exactions from my people, declares the Lord God. 10 You must have honest scales, an honest ephah, and an honest bath.
- Ezek 46:16-18 : 16 This is what the Lord God says: If the prince gives a gift of part of his inheritance to one of his sons, it will belong to his sons; it is their possession by inheritance. 17 If he gives a gift of part of his inheritance to one of his servants, it will only belong to the servant until the year of release. After that, it will revert to the prince. His inheritance is for his sons alone; it belongs to them. 18 The prince must not take away any of the people’s inheritance by oppressing them or removing property from their possession. He is to give his sons their own inheritance from his property so that none of my people are driven from their rightful possession.
- Rom 13:1-7 : 1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. 2 Therefore, whoever resists authority is resisting what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will receive its approval. 4 For the ruler is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not carry the sword in vain. He is God's servant, an avenger who carries out wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to be subject, not only because of wrath but also because of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are servants of God, continually attending to this very thing. 7 Render to all what is due them: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs are due, respect to whom respect is due, and honor to whom honor is due.
