They also observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and dining couches. 5 So the Pharisees and the scribes questioned Him, "Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with unwashed hands?" 6 He answered them, "Isaiah rightly prophesied about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.' 7 They worship Me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. 8 You have abandoned the commandment of God and hold onto human traditions, including the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other similar things." 9 He also said to them, "How skillfully you set aside the commandment of God in order to uphold your own tradition. 10 For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.' 11 But you say, 'If anyone says to his father or mother, "Whatever help you might have received from me is Corban"' (that is, devoted to God), 12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother. 13 You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that."
