- Josh 14:6-9 : 6 The descendants of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, 'You know the word the LORD spoke to Moses, the man of God, about you and me in Kadesh Barnea.' 7 'I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back a report to him as it was in my heart.' 8 'But my brothers who went up with me discouraged the hearts of the people, while I followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.' 9 'On that day, Moses swore to me: “The land on which your foot has walked will be your inheritance and that of your descendants forever because you have followed the LORD my God fully.”' 10 Now here I am, the LORD has kept me alive, as He promised, these forty-five years since the time the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel journeyed in the wilderness. And now, here I am today, eighty-five years old. 11 I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. My strength now is just as it was then, whether for battle or for going out and coming in. 12 So now give me this hill country the LORD promised me on that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakim are there and their cities are large and fortified. Perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out as the LORD said. 13 Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. 14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as his inheritance to this day because he wholeheartedly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. 15 Previously, Hebron had been called Kiriath Arba, named after Arba, the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.
