  • Isa 13:1-9 : 1 The burden against Babylon which Isaiah, the son of Amoz, saw. 2 Lift up a banner on a bare hill; shout to them. Wave your hand so they may enter the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded My consecrated ones; I have also summoned My mighty ones, those who exult in My majesty, to carry out My anger. 4 Listen! A tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude. Listen! An uproar of kingdoms, of nations gathering together. The LORD of Hosts is mustering an army for battle. 5 They come from a distant land, from the ends of the heavens—the LORD and the weapons of His wrath—to destroy the whole earth. 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty. 7 Because of this, every hand will go limp and every human heart will melt with fear. 8 They will be terrified; pain and anguish will grip them. They will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look at each other in dismay, their faces aflame. 9 See, the day of the LORD is coming—a cruel day with wrath and fierce anger—to make the land desolate and to destroy the sinners within it. 10 The stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light. • Isa 47:1-9 : 1 Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no longer be called tender and delicate. 2 Take a millstone and grind flour; remove your veil, strip off your train, uncover your legs, and cross the rivers. 3 Your nakedness will be uncovered, your shame will be seen. I will take vengeance, and I will spare no one. 4 Our Redeemer—the LORD of Hosts is His name—the Holy One of Israel. 5 Sit silently and enter into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no longer be called the mistress of kingdoms. 6 I was angry with My people, I profaned My heritage and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy; you made your yoke very heavy on the elderly. 7 You said, 'I will be a mistress forever,' but you did not take these things to heart or remember their outcome. 8 Now hear this, you pleasure-loving one, sitting securely, who says in her heart, 'I am, and there is no one besides me; I will not sit as a widow, or know the loss of children.' 9 But these two things will come upon you in a moment, in one day: loss of children and widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, despite your many sorceries and the great power of your spells. 10 You felt secure in your wickedness and said, 'No one sees me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge have led you astray, and you said in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one besides me.' 11 But disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to charm it away; calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off; and devastation will come upon you suddenly, without warning. 12 Persist then with your spells and your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth—perhaps you might succeed, perhaps you might cause terror. 13 You are wearied with your many counsels; let those who divide the heavens, those who gaze at the stars, those who announce the months, stand now and save you from what is coming upon you. 14 Behold, they are like stubble; fire consumes them. They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. There will be no coal for warming oneself, nor fire to sit before. 15 This is how it will be for those with whom you have labored, those who have traded with you from your youth; each one wanders to his own way—there is no one to save you.

  • Jer 25:17-29 : 17 So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent me drink it. 18 Jerusalem, the towns of Judah, its kings, and officials, to make them a ruin, a desolation, an object of hissing and cursing, as they are today. 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officials, his leaders, and all his people. 20 All the mixed peoples and all the kings of the land of Uz; all the kings of the Philistine cities: Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod. 21 Edom, Moab, and the sons of Ammon. 22 All the kings of Tyre and all the kings of Sidon; the kings of the coastlands across the sea. 23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who clip the corners of their hair. 24 All the kings of Arabia and the kings of the mixed peoples who live in the desert. 25 All the kings of Zimri, Elam, and Media. 26 And all the kings of the north, near and far, one after another—all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after them, the king of Sheshach will drink. 27 Then say to them: This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Drink, get drunk, and vomit; fall and do not rise, because of the sword I am sending among you.' 28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, tell them, 'This is what the LORD of Hosts says: You must drink it!' 29 For behold, I am bringing disaster on the city that bears my name, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the LORD of Hosts.

  • Jer 46:1-9 : 1 This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations. 2 Concerning Egypt: about the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was at the Euphrates River in Carchemish and was defeated by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah. 3 Prepare your shields, both small and large, and march out for battle! 4 Harness the horses, and mount the riders! Take your positions with helmets on! Polish the spears, and put on your armor! 5 Why do I see them terrified, retreating? Their warriors are beaten down; they flee in haste without looking back—terror is all around! declares the Lord. 6 The swift cannot flee, nor can the strong escape. In the north, by the river Euphrates, they stumble and fall. 7 Who is this that rises like the Nile, like rivers that surge and toss about? 8 Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters surge like rivers. It says, 'I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy cities and their inhabitants.' 9 Charge, you horses! Drive furiously, you charioteers! Let the warriors march out—Cush and Put, wielding shields, and the Ludim, skilled in using the bow. 10 For that day belongs to the Lord, the Lord of Hosts— a day of vengeance to avenge his foes. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, till it is drunk with their blood. For the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River. 11 Go up to Gilead and get balm, Virgin Daughter Egypt. But you multiply remedies in vain; there is no healing for you. 12 The nations have heard of your shame; the earth is filled with your cry. One warrior stumbles over another; both fall together. 13 This is the word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, coming to strike the land of Egypt. 14 Announce it in Egypt, proclaim it in Migdol; proclaim it also in Memphis and Tahpanhes: 'Take your positions and prepare yourself, for the sword has devoured those around you.' 15 Why has your strong one been swept away? He did not stand because the Lord drove him away. 16 He caused many to stumble; they fell one upon another. They said, 'Get up! Let us return to our own people and our homeland, away from the oppressing sword.' 17 'Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is nothing but noise; he has missed his opportunity,' they said. 18 As surely as I live, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of Hosts, one will come like Tabor among the mountains, like Carmel by the sea. 19 Prepare your belongings for exile, you who live in Egypt, for Memphis will become a desolation, a ruin without inhabitants. 20 Egypt is a beautiful heifer, but a stinging gadfly from the north is coming against her. 21 Even her mercenaries in her midst are like fattened calves; they too will turn and flee together. They cannot stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment. 22 Her voice will hiss like a serpent as they advance in force; with axes they come against her, like those who cut down trees. 23 They will cut down her forest, declares the Lord, though it is dense. They are more numerous than locusts; they cannot be counted. 24 The Daughter of Egypt will be put to shame; she will be handed over to people from the north. 25 The Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'See, I am about to punish Amon of Thebes, Pharaoh, Egypt, her gods, her kings, Pharaoh, and those who trust in him.' 26 I will hand them over to those who want to take their lives, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his servants. But afterward, Egypt will be inhabited again as in ancient days,' declares the Lord. 27 But as for you, my servant Jacob, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, Israel. For I will save you from far away and your descendants from their captivity. Jacob will return and will be at peace and secure, with no one to make him afraid. 28 Do not be afraid, my servant Jacob, declares the Lord, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations where I have scattered you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you justly, but I will not leave you entirely unpunished.

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you said, 'Aha!' against my sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into exile, 4 therefore, I am handing you over to the people of the east as a possession. They will set up their camps among you and pitch their tents around you; they will eat your fruit and drink your milk. 5 I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and the land of the Ammonites a resting place for flocks. Then you will know that I am the LORD. 6 For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you clapped your hands, stomped your feet, and rejoiced with all the scorn in your heart against the land of Israel, 7 therefore, I will stretch out my hand against you and give you as plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples, destroy you from the lands, and annihilate you. Then you will know that I am the LORD. 8 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because Moab and Seir said, 'Look! The house of Judah is like all the other nations,' 9 therefore, I will expose the flank of Moab, beginning with its frontier cities—the pride of the land—Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim. 10 I will hand it over, along with the Ammonites, to the people of the east as a possession, so that the Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations. 11 I will execute judgments on Moab, and they will know that I am the LORD. 12 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because Edom acted in revenge against the house of Judah and committed great guilt by taking vengeance on them, 13 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off both man and beast from it. I will make it a wasteland from Teman to Dedan, and they will fall by the sword. 14 I will take my vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom according to my anger and my wrath. Then they will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign LORD. 15 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice in their hearts, seeking to destroy Judah with perpetual hostility, 16 therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am about to stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the remnant living on the coast. 17 I will carry out great acts of vengeance on them and punish them with furious rebukes. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I take vengeance on them.
