  • Mark 13:1-9 : 1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, 'Teacher, look at these magnificent stones and impressive buildings!' 2 Jesus replied, 'Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.' 3 While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, 4 'Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that all these things are about to be fulfilled? 5 Jesus began to say to them, 'Watch out that no one deceives you.' 6 'Many will come in My name, claiming, "I am He," and will deceive many.' 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains. 9 'You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to councils and beaten in synagogues. On account of Me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.' 10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. 11 When you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given to you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. 12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death. 13 Everyone will hate you because of My name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 When you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be, as spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. 15 Let the one who is on the rooftop not go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 And let the one who is in the field not turn back to get their cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 18 Pray that this will not happen in winter. 19 For those days will be a time of tribulation unlike anything that has occurred from the beginning of creation, which God made, until now, and will never occur again. 20 If the Lord had not shortened those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom He has chosen, He has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or ‘Look, there He is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on guard; I have told you everything ahead of time. 24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And He will send His angels to gather His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. 28 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its branch becomes tender and its leaves sprout, you know that summer is near. 29 In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that it is near—right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. 32 But about that day or hour no one knows—not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Stay alert and pray, because you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, who leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their task, and tells the doorkeeper to stay alert. 35 Therefore, stay alert, because you do not know when the master of the house will come—whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 Otherwise, when he comes suddenly, he may find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: Stay alert!
  • Luke 21:5-9 : 5 Some people were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and offerings, and he said, 6 ‘As for these things you see, days are coming when not one stone will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.’ 7 They asked him, 'Teacher, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?' 8 He replied, 'Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, saying, “I am he,” and, “The time is near.” Do not follow them.' 9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be terrified. These things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately. 10 Then he said to them, 'Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.' 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues in various places, as well as terrifying events and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors on account of my name. 13 This will result in an opportunity for you to bear witness. 14 Therefore, make up your minds not to prepare your defense beforehand. 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and some of you will be put to death. 17 Everyone will hate you because of my name. 18 Yet not a single hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance, you will gain your lives. 20 When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those inside the city must leave it, and those in the countryside must not enter it. 22 For these are days of vengeance, so that all that is written may be fulfilled. 23 Woe to those who are pregnant and nursing in those days! For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath against this people. 24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken as captives to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. 25 There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars; and on the earth, distress among nations, confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves. 26 People will faint from fear and the expectation of what is coming upon the world, because the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. 29 Then he told them a parable: 'Look at the fig tree and all the trees.' 30 When they sprout leaves, you see for yourselves, and know that summer is near. 31 In the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. 34 Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with indulgence, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all who live on the face of the earth as a snare. 36 Be vigilant and pray at all times, so that you may have the strength to escape all that is about to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.

They stopped at the entrance to the eastern gate of the LORD's house, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.
