    29 At the appointed time, he will invade the South again, but this time it will not be as it was before.

    30 Ships from the western coastlands will oppose him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn back and vent his anger against the holy covenant. He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant.

    31 Forces from him will rise up and desecrate the sanctuary fortress. They will abolish the daily sacrifice and set up the abomination of desolation.

    32 Those who act wickedly against the covenant will be corrupted by flattery, but the people who know their God will stand firm and take action.

    9 Then the king of the North will invade the realm of the king of the South but will return to his own land.

    10 His sons will prepare for war and assemble a great army. They will sweep through, overflow, and pass on to launch attacks and stir up conflicts as far as the enemy's fortress.

    11 Then the king of the South will be enraged and will march out to fight against the king of the North. The king of the North will raise a large army, but it will be handed over to the king of the South.

    12 When the army is captured, the king's heart will become proud. Though he will overthrow tens of thousands, he will not remain strong.

    13 The king of the North will return and raise a greater army than before. After several years, he will come again with a large army and much equipment.

    14 During those times, many will rise up against the king of the South. Violent men among your own people will rise up to fulfill the vision, but they will fall.

    15 So the king of the North will come and build siege ramps and capture a fortified city. The forces of the South will not stand; even their best troops will have no strength to resist.

    16 The invader will do as he pleases, and no one will be able to withstand him. He will establish himself in the Glorious Land, and it will be completely under his control.

    17 He will set his face to come with the power of his whole kingdom, making agreements, and will give a daughter of women in marriage to destroy it. But his plan will not succeed or help him.

    18 Then he will turn his attention to the coastlands and will capture many. However, a commander will put an end to his arrogance and will repay him for his scorn.

    19 Afterward, he will turn back toward the fortresses of his own land, but he will stumble and fall and not be found again.

    20 In his place, one will arise who will send out a tax collector to maintain the royal splendor. In a short time, he will be destroyed, though not by anger or in battle.

    21 Another will arise in his place, a contemptible man who has not been given royal honor. He will seize the kingdom through intrigue and deceit.

    22 Then the armed forces shall be swept away before him and broken, including the prince of the covenant.
