Also, let the king give her royal position to someone who is better than she. 20 When the king's edict is proclaimed throughout his vast kingdom, all the women will give respect to their husbands, from the least to the greatest. 21 The proposal pleased the king and the officials, and the king did as Memucan suggested.

    15When it was Esther’s turn—the daughter of Abihail, the uncle of Mordecai who had adopted her as his own daughter—to go to the king, she did not request anything except what Hegai, the king’s eunuch in charge of the women, recommended. And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her.

    16Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus in the royal palace in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

    17Now the king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she won his favor and kindness more than any of the other virgins. So he placed the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

    18Then the king held a great banquet, Esther’s banquet, for all his officials and servants. He also declared a holiday for the provinces and distributed gifts with royal generosity.

    19When the virgins were gathered a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate.
