6Their neighbors supported them with silver articles, gold, goods, livestock, and choice gifts, in addition to all the freewill offerings.
7King Cyrus also brought out the articles belonging to the house of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and had placed in the house of his gods.
8Cyrus, king of Persia, brought them out under the oversight of Mithredath, the treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.
7They gave money to the stonecutters and carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so they would bring cedar wood by sea from Lebanon to Joppa, according to the permission granted by Cyrus king of Persia.
8In the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers—the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned from captivity to Jerusalem—began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years old and older to oversee the work on the house of the LORD.
9Jeshua and his sons and brothers, along with Kadmiel and his sons, who were descendants of Judah, joined together to oversee those working on the house of God. The sons of Henadad, along with their sons and brothers, the Levites, also took part in the work.
1When the seventh month came, and the Israelites were in their cities, the people gathered together as one in Jerusalem.
2Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests, along with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his brothers, built the altar of the God of Israel to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses, the man of God.
15And he said to him, 'Take these vessels and go; deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.'
16Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem. And from that time until now, it has been under construction and is not yet completed.
17And now, if it seems good to the king, let a search be made in the royal archives in Babylon to determine if a decree was indeed issued by King Cyrus to rebuild this house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision concerning this matter.
4But now, be strong, Zerubbabel—this is the declaration of the LORD. Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land—this is the declaration of the LORD. Work, for I am with you—this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.
7Leave the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.
14So the elders of the Jews continued building and succeeded through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, the son of Iddo. They finished building according to the command of the God of Israel and the decrees of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes, kings of Persia.
68Several of the heads of the families, upon arriving at the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, gave freewill offerings to rebuild it on its foundation.
14The LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the LORD of Hosts, their God.
15On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

9'Though we are slaves, our God has not abandoned us in our slavery. He has shown us kindness in the sight of the kings of Persia. He has granted us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, and He has given us a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem.'

10and the rest of the peoples whom the great and noble Ashurbanipal deported and settled in the city of Samaria and in the rest of the region beyond the River—now,
20I answered them, saying, "The God of heaven will give us success. We, his servants, will arise and build. But as for you, you have no share, no legal claim or historic right in Jerusalem."
23This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and has appointed me to build a temple for Him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of His people among you—may the LORD their God be with them, and let them go up.’
9The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you.
2Speak now to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:
