9The glory of this latter house will be greater than that of the former, says the LORD of Hosts. And in this place I will give peace—this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.
10On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Haggai the prophet, saying:
11This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Ask the priests for a ruling:
14Then Haggai responded and said, 'So it is with this people, and so it is with this nation before me—this is the declaration of the LORD. So is every work of their hands, and whatever they offer there is defiled.'
15Now think carefully from this day forward: Before a single stone was laid on another in the temple of the LORD—
12Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the entire remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the LORD their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the LORD their God had sent him. And the people feared the LORD.

9This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Let your hands be strong, you who in these days hear these words from the mouths of the prophets who were present when the foundation was laid for rebuilding the temple of the LORD of Hosts.
15And he said to him, 'Take these vessels and go; deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.'
16Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem. And from that time until now, it has been under construction and is not yet completed.
8Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
9The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you.
7This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Consider carefully your ways.
8Go up into the mountains, bring down timber, and build the house, so that I may be pleased with it and be glorified, says the LORD.
9You expected much, but it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew it away. Why?” declares the LORD of Hosts. “Because My house remains in ruins, while each of you is busy with your own house.
20The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month:
21Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah: 'I am about to shake the heavens and the earth.'
1Then Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel who was over them.
2Then Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua, son of Jozadak, arose and began to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem, and the prophets of God were with them, supporting them.
3At that time, Tattenai, the governor of the region beyond the River, Shethar-Bozenai, and their companions came to them and said, 'Who gave you the authority to rebuild this temple and complete this structure?'
2This is what Cyrus, king of Persia, says: 'The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a temple in Jerusalem, in Judah.'
3Whoever among you belongs to His people, may their God be with them, and let them go up to Jerusalem, in Judah, and build the temple of the LORD, the God of Israel. He is the God who is in Jerusalem.
8In the second year after their arrival at the house of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers—the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned from captivity to Jerusalem—began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years old and older to oversee the work on the house of the LORD.
1In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
13'However, in the first year of Cyrus, king of Babylon, King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild this temple of God.'
3But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel said to them, "You have no part with us in building a temple to our God. We alone will build it for the LORD, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus, king of Persia, has commanded us."
1When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the returned exiles were building a temple for the LORD, the God of Israel,
6He said to me, 'This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:
7Leave the work on this house of God alone. Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.
11'This was their reply to us: "We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago. It was a great king of Israel who built and completed it."'
6From the first day of the seventh month, they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, even though the foundation of the LORD’s temple had not yet been laid.
9'Then we asked those elders, and we said to them, "Who gave you the authority to rebuild this temple and complete this structure?"'
4Then the word of the LORD of Hosts came to me, saying:
15Those who are far away will come and help build the temple of the LORD. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.
18From this day forward, consider carefully: From the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month—the day the foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid—consider it carefully.
1The word of the LORD of Hosts came, saying:
7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
12Tell him: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: "Here is a man whose name is Branch; He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD.
37In the fourth year, in the month of Ziv (the second month), the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
7I will shake all the nations, and the treasures of all the nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.
