Let it be done diligently. 13 Then Tattenai, governor of the region Beyond the River, Shethar-Bozenai, and their colleagues carried out the decree of King Darius with all diligence. 14 So the elders of the Jews continued building and succeeded through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, the son of Iddo. They finished building according to the command of the God of Israel and the decrees of Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes, kings of Persia. 15 This temple was completed on the third day of the month of Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius. 16 The people of Israel—the priests, the Levites, and the rest of the exiles—celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy. 17 They offered for the dedication of this house of God one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs, and twelve male goats as a sin offering for all Israel, according to the number of the tribes of Israel. 18 Then they appointed the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their groups for the service of God in Jerusalem, according to what is written in the Book of Moses.

    26Anyone who does not obey the law of your God and the law of the king shall face judgment promptly, whether it be death, banishment, confiscation of property, or imprisonment.

    27Blessed be the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem.

    11This is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, a scribe skilled in the commandments of the Lord and His statutes for Israel:

    12"Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven. Perfect peace, and now:

    13I issue a decree that any willing person from the people of Israel, including the priests and Levites in my kingdom, may go with you to Jerusalem.

    14For you are sent by the king and his seven counselors to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem according to the law of your God, which is in your hand.

    15And to bring the silver and gold that the king and his counselors have freely offered to the God of Israel, whose dwelling is in Jerusalem.

    17With this silver, you shall diligently buy bulls, rams, and lambs, along with their grain and drink offerings, and offer them on the altar of the house of your God in Jerusalem.

    18And whatever seems best to you and your brothers to do with the rest of the silver and gold, you may do according to the will of your God.

    19Also, deliver the vessels that are given to you for the service of the house of your God in Jerusalem.
