19 The young man did not delay in doing the thing, because he delighted in Jacob’s daughter. Now he was the most respected of all his father’s household.
20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their city and spoke to the men of their city, saying:
21 "These men are at peace with us. Let them dwell in the land and trade in it, for the land is spacious enough for them. Let us take their daughters as wives, and let us give them our daughters.
22 Only on this condition will the men agree to live with us and become one people: every male among us must be circumcised, just as they are.
23 Won't their livestock, their property, and all their animals be ours? Only let us agree to them, and they will dwell with us."
6 Then Hamor, the father of Shechem, went out to Jacob to speak with him.
7 Now Jacob's sons had come in from the fields when they heard, and the men were grieved and very angry, because this outrageous act had been done in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter—something that should not be done.
8 Hamor spoke with them, saying, "My son Shechem has set his heart on your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.
2 And Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. He seized her, lay with her, and violated her.
3 But his heart was deeply attached to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her.
4 Shechem said to his father Hamor, "Get me this girl as my wife."
6 They took the daughters of these peoples as wives for themselves, gave their own daughters to the sons of these peoples, and worshiped their gods.
16 And when you take some of their daughters as wives for your sons, their daughters will lead your sons to prostitute themselves to their gods.
38 Instead, you must go to my father's household and to my family to take a wife for my son.'
26 They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword and took Dinah from Shechem's house and left.

12 So now, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Do not seek their peace or prosperity forever, so that you may be strong, eat the good things of the land, and leave it to your children as an inheritance forever.
