But they replied to him, "Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing!

4 They had just left the city and had not gone far when Joseph said to his steward, "Get up, pursue the men. When you catch up to them, say to them, 'Why have you repaid good with evil?'
5 'Is this not the cup my master drinks from and also uses for divination? You have done wrong in what you have done.'
6 When the steward caught up to them, he said these words to them.
6 Israel said, “Why did you bring this trouble on me by telling the man that you had another brother?”

22 But we said to my lord, 'The boy cannot leave his father. If he leaves, his father will die.'"
23 But you said to your servants, 'If your youngest brother does not come down with you, you will not see my face again.'
24 When we went back to your servant, my father, we told him the words of my lord.
32 For your servant took responsibility for the boy before my father, saying, 'If I do not bring him back to you, then I shall bear the blame before my father all my life.'
33 Now, therefore, please let your servant remain here as a slave to my lord in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.
34 For how can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? I could not bear to see the misery that would come upon my father.
28 He said to his brothers, 'My money has been returned! Look, it is here in my sack.' Their hearts sank, and trembling, they turned to one another, saying, 'What is this that God has done to us?'
17 'This is what you are to say to Joseph: “Please forgive the transgressions of your brothers and their sin, for they treated you so badly.” Now, please forgive the transgressions of the servants of the God of your father.' Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
18 Then his brothers also came, bowed down before him, and said, 'We are your servants.'
1 Joseph instructed the steward of his house, saying, "Fill the men's sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man's silver in the opening of his sack."
2 "Then put my silver cup in the opening of the youngest one's sack, along with the silver for his grain." And he did as Joseph had instructed.
18 But the men were afraid when they were taken to Joseph's house. They said, "We were brought here because of the silver that was returned to our sacks the first time. He plans to trap us, attack us, take us as slaves, and seize our donkeys."
3 Pharaoh asked Joseph’s brothers, 'What is your occupation?' and they replied to Pharaoh, 'Your servants are shepherds, just as our fathers were.'
4 They also said to Pharaoh, 'We have come to sojourn in this land because there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks, for the famine in the land of Canaan is severe. Please allow your servants to settle in the region of Goshen.'
14 But Joseph said to them, 'It is just as I said: You are spies!
31 But they replied, "Should he treat our sister like a prostitute?"
21 They said to one another, 'Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw the anguish of his soul when he begged us, but we would not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.'
30 They said, 'The man who is lord of the land spoke harshly to us and accused us of spying on the country.'
18 When that year was over, they came to him the next year and said, 'We cannot hide from our lord that our money is gone and our livestock has been given to you. There is nothing left for our lord but our bodies and our land.'
20 They said, "Please, my lord, we came down here before to buy food.
