17 The steward did as Joseph said and brought the men to Joseph's house.
18 But the men were afraid when they were taken to Joseph's house. They said, "We were brought here because of the silver that was returned to our sacks the first time. He plans to trap us, attack us, take us as slaves, and seize our donkeys."
19 So they approached Joseph's steward and spoke to him at the entrance of the house.
1 Now the famine was severe in the land.
2 When they had finished eating the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them, “Go back and buy a little more food for us.”
3 But Judah said to him, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You will not see my face unless your brother is with you.’
4 If you send our brother with us, we will go down and buy food for you.
23 But you said to your servants, 'If your youngest brother does not come down with you, you will not see my face again.'
24 When we went back to your servant, my father, we told him the words of my lord.
25 Later, our father said, 'Go back and buy us a little more food.'
26 But we said, 'We cannot go down unless our youngest brother is with us. For we cannot see the man's face unless our youngest brother is with us.'
2 And he said, 'Look, I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die.'
3 Then ten of Joseph's brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.
7 But they replied to him, "Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing!
8 "Look, we even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the silver we found in the mouths of our sacks. Why would we steal silver or gold from your master's house?
7 They replied, “The man kept asking us about ourselves and our family, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Do you have another brother?’ We simply answered his questions. How could we have known he would say, ‘Bring your brother down here’?”
15 So the men took the gifts, double the amount of silver, and Benjamin. They got up, went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
5 So the sons of Israel came to buy grain, along with others who were coming, for the famine was also in the land of Canaan.
6 Now Joseph was the ruler over the land, the one who sold grain to all its people. Joseph's brothers came and bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.
7 When Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he acted as a stranger toward them and spoke harshly to them. He asked, 'Where have you come from?' They answered, 'From the land of Canaan, to buy food.'
18 When that year was over, they came to him the next year and said, 'We cannot hide from our lord that our money is gone and our livestock has been given to you. There is nothing left for our lord but our bodies and our land.'
19 'Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land in exchange for food, and we will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become desolate.'
1 Joseph instructed the steward of his house, saying, "Fill the men's sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each man's silver in the opening of his sack."
2 "Then put my silver cup in the opening of the youngest one's sack, along with the silver for his grain." And he did as Joseph had instructed.
33 'Then the man who is lord of the land said to us, "This is how I will know if you are honest men: Leave one of your brothers here with me and take food for your starving households and go.
25 Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to return each man's silver to his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. After this was done, they loaded their grain on their donkeys and departed.
14 Joseph collected all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan in exchange for the grain they were buying, and he brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
15 When the money from the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, 'Give us food! Why should we die in front of you? For our money is gone.'
10 If we had not delayed, we could have gone and returned twice by now.”
35 As they were emptying their sacks, there in each man's sack was his bundle of silver. When they and their father saw the bundles of silver, they were frightened.
18 Then his brothers also came, bowed down before him, and said, 'We are your servants.'
28 He said to his brothers, 'My money has been returned! Look, it is here in my sack.' Their hearts sank, and trembling, they turned to one another, saying, 'What is this that God has done to us?'
29 When they came to Jacob, their father, in the land of Canaan, they told him all that had happened to them.
12 Take double the silver with you, and also return the silver that was put back into your sacks. Perhaps it was a mistake.
31 'But we said to him, "We are honest men, not spies.
4 They also said to Pharaoh, 'We have come to sojourn in this land because there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks, for the famine in the land of Canaan is severe. Please allow your servants to settle in the region of Goshen.'
32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks, herds, and everything they own.
21 They said to one another, 'Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw the anguish of his soul when he begged us, but we would not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.'
14 Judah and his brothers arrived at Joseph's house while he was still there, and they fell to the ground before him.
