They went around to all the cities of Judah and instructed the people. 10 The fear of the LORD came upon all the kingdoms surrounding Judah, so they did not make war against Jehoshaphat. 11 The Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabians brought him flocks—7,700 rams and 7,700 goats. 12 Jehoshaphat grew greater and greater, and he built fortresses and storage cities in Judah. 13 He had considerable supplies in the cities of Judah and soldiers, mighty men of valor, stationed in Jerusalem. 14 Here is the count of their enrollment by their families: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah, the commander, with 300,000 mighty men of valor. 15 Next to him was Jehohanan, the commander, with 280,000 men. 16 Next to him was Amasiah, son of Zichri, who volunteered himself to the LORD, with 200,000 mighty men of valor. 17 From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields. 18 Next to him was Jehozabad, with 180,000 armed men prepared for battle. 19 These were the men who served the king, besides those the king placed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.

He also had farmers and vinedressers in the hills and fertile lands, for he loved the soil. 11 Uzziah had an army of trained soldiers ready for battle. They were grouped according to their divisions and mustered by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king's officials. 12 The total number of family leaders in charge of the fighting men was 2,600. 13 Under their command was an army of 307,500 men who could make war with great power to support the king against his enemies. 14 Uzziah provided the entire army with shields, spears, helmets, coats of armor, bows, and slings for stones. 15 In Jerusalem, Uzziah made devices designed by skilled men to be placed on the towers and corners for shooting arrows and large stones. His fame spread far and wide, for he was marvelously helped until he became powerful. 16 But after Uzziah became strong, his heart was lifted up with pride, leading to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. 17 Azariah the priest, along with eighty brave priests of the Lord, followed him in. 18 They confronted King Uzziah and said to him, 'It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful, and you will not be honored by the Lord God.' 19 Uzziah, who was holding a censer to burn incense, became angry. While he was raging at the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the house of the Lord, near the altar of incense. 20 Azariah the chief priest and all the other priests looked at him, and they saw that he had leprosy on his forehead. So they hurried him out, and he himself was eager to leave because the Lord had afflicted him. 21 King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house, excluded from the temple of the Lord. His son Jotham was in charge of the palace and governed the people of the land. 22 The rest of the events of Uzziah's reign, from beginning to end, are recorded by the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz. 23 Uzziah rested with his ancestors and was buried near them in a field for royal burials, for people said, 'He had leprosy.' And Jotham his son succeeded him as king.

They said, 'Go up, and the Lord will give it into the king’s hands.' 7 But Jehoshaphat asked, 'Is there not another prophet of the LORD here whom we can inquire of?' 8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, only bad. His name is Micaiah son of Imlah.' Jehoshaphat replied, 'The king should not say such a thing.' 9 So the king of Israel called an officer and said, 'Quickly bring Micaiah son of Imlah.' 10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, were sitting on their thrones, dressed in their royal robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance to the gate of Samaria, while all the prophets were prophesying in front of them. 11 Now Zedekiah son of Chenaanah had made iron horns, and he declared, 'This is what the LORD says: With these, you will gore the Arameans until they are completely destroyed.' 12 And all the prophets were prophesying the same, saying, 'Go up to Ramoth Gilead and triumph, for the LORD will give it into the hand of the king.' 13 The messenger who went to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Behold, all the prophets are declaring good things to the king with one voice. Please let your word agree with theirs and say something favorable.' 14 But Micaiah said, 'As surely as the LORD lives, I can only speak what the LORD tells me.' 15 When Micaiah arrived before the king, the king said to him, 'Micaiah, should we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or should we refrain?' Micaiah answered, 'Go and succeed, for the LORD will give it into the king’s hand.' 16 But the king said to him, 'How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?' 17 Then Micaiah said, 'I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd. And the LORD said, “These people have no master; each one should go home in peace.”' 18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, only bad?' 19 Micaiah continued, 'Therefore, hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, with all the host of heaven standing around Him on His right and on His left.' 20 And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One suggested this, and another suggested that. 21 Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will entice him.’ 22 ‘By what means?’ the LORD asked. 'I will go and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,' he said. The LORD replied, 'You will succeed in enticing him. Go and do it.' 23 So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has decreed disaster for you. 24 Then Zedekiah son of Chenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah on the cheek and demanded, 'Which way did the spirit of the LORD go when he left me to speak to you?' 25 Micaiah replied, 'You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.' 26 Then the king of Israel ordered, 'Take Micaiah and return him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Joash, the king’s son.' 27 And say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water of affliction until I return safely.’ 28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.' Then he added, 'Pay attention, all you people!' 29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went up to Ramoth Gilead. 30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle. 31 Now the king of Aram had commanded the thirty-two chariot commanders, 'Do not fight with anyone, whether small or great, except the king of Israel alone.' 32 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'Surely this is the king of Israel.' So they turned to attack him. But Jehoshaphat cried out for help. 33 When the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they stopped pursuing him. 34 But someone randomly drew his bow and struck the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. The king told his chariot driver, 'Turn around and get me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded.' 35 The battle raged throughout that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. But he died that evening, and the blood from his wound ran onto the floor of the chariot. 36 As the sun was setting, a cry spread throughout the army, 'Every man to his city, and every man to his land!' 37 So the king died and was brought to Samaria, where they buried him. 38 They washed the chariot at the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, as the prostitutes bathed there, in accordance with the word of the LORD that He had spoken. 39 The rest of the acts of Ahab, including all that he did, the palace of ivory he built, and the cities he constructed, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 40 So Ahab rested with his ancestors, and his son Ahaziah became king in his place. 41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab, king of Israel. 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for twenty-five years.
