Some time later, I asked the king for permission to leave. 7 I returned to Jerusalem and understood the evil thing that Eliashib had done for Tobiah by providing him a room in the courts of the house of God. 8 I was greatly displeased, and I threw all of Tobiah’s household belongings out of the room. 9 Then I ordered the rooms to be purified, and I brought back the articles of the house of God, along with the grain offerings and the incense. 10 I also learned that the portions assigned to the Levites had not been given to them, and that the Levites and singers responsible for the service had gone back to their own fields. 11 So I rebuked the officials and asked, "Why is the house of God neglected?" Then I gathered them together and stationed them at their posts. 12 All Judah then brought the tithes of grain, new wine, and olive oil into the storerooms. 13 I appointed as treasurers over the storerooms Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah from the Levites, and as their assistant, Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, because they were considered trustworthy. They were responsible for distributing to their kinsmen.

  • 1 Chr 29:2-9 : 2 So, to the best of my ability, I have made preparations for the house of my God: gold for the gold work, silver for the silver work, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx stones, inlaid stones, colored stones, all kinds of precious stones, and marble in abundance. 3 Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now dedicate my personal treasure of gold and silver for the house of my God, in addition to all I have already provided for the holy house. 4 This includes three thousand talents of gold from Ophir and seven thousand talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the buildings. 5 Gold for the gold work and silver for the silver work, and for all the work done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today? 6 Then the leaders of the families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly. 7 They gave for the work of the house of God: five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. 8 And those who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9 The people rejoiced at their willing offering, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. And King David also rejoiced greatly.

He also had farmers and vinedressers in the hills and fertile lands, for he loved the soil. 11 Uzziah had an army of trained soldiers ready for battle. They were grouped according to their divisions and mustered by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king's officials.
  • Prov 27:23-27 : 23 Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds. 24 For riches do not last forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations. 25 When the hay is removed, and new growth appears, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered, 26 the lambs will provide you with clothing, and the goats with the price of a field. 27 There will be enough goats’ milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the maintenance of your servant girls.
  • Matt 13:52 : 52 Then he said to them, "For this reason, every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom both new treasures and old ones."
