  • 2 Sam 11:2-9 : 2 One evening, David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful. 3 David sent someone to inquire about the woman, and it was reported to him, 'Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?' 4 So David sent messengers, took her, and she came to him. He slept with her while she was purifying herself from her uncleanness. Then she returned to her house. 5 The woman conceived and sent a message to David, saying, 'I am pregnant.' 6 So David sent word to Joab, 'Send me Uriah the Hittite,' and Joab sent Uriah to David. 7 When Uriah came to him, David asked about Joab’s well-being, the well-being of the troops, and the condition of the war. 8 Then David said to Uriah, 'Go down to your house and wash your feet.' So Uriah left the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him. 9 But Uriah slept at the entrance of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord and did not go down to his house. 10 When they told David, 'Uriah did not go down to his house,' David said to Uriah, 'Haven’t you just come from a journey? Why didn’t you go home?' 11 Uriah said to David, 'The Ark, Israel, and Judah are staying in tents, and my lord Joab and the king’s servants are camped in the open field. How can I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely as you live and as your soul lives, I will not do such a thing!' 12 Then David said to Uriah, 'Stay here one more day, and tomorrow I will send you back.' So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next. 13 David invited Uriah to eat and drink with him, and David made him drunk. In the evening, Uriah went out to lie on his mat among his master's servants but did not go home. 14 The next morning, David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. 15 In the letter, David wrote, 'Put Uriah at the front where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and killed.' 16 As Joab kept watch over the city, he positioned Uriah at a place where he knew the strongest defenders were. 17 When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of David’s men fell in battle, and Uriah the Hittite also died. 18 Joab sent David a full report of the battle. 19 He instructed the messenger, 'When you finish delivering the report of the battle to the king, 20 if the king becomes angry and asks, "Why did you go so near the city to fight? Didn’t you know they would shoot arrows from the wall? 21 Who killed Abimelech son of Jerubbesheth? Didn’t a woman drop a millstone on him from the wall so that he died in Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?" then say to him, "Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead."' 22 The messenger set out, and when he arrived, he reported to David everything Joab had sent him to say. 23 The messenger said to David, 'The men overpowered us and came out against us in the open field, but we drove them back to the entrance of the city gate.' 24 Then the archers shot arrows at your servants from the wall, and some of the king’s men died. Moreover, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead. 25 David said to the messenger, 'Say this to Joab: Don’t let this thing upset you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Press your attack against the city and destroy it. Encourage him.' 26 When Uriah’s wife heard that her husband was dead, she mourned for him. 27 After the mourning was over, David sent for her and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing David had done displeased the LORD.
  • 2 Chr 33:9-9 : 9 But Manasseh led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the LORD had destroyed before the Israelites. 10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they did not listen. 11 So the LORD brought against them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria. They captured Manasseh with hooks, bound him with bronze shackles, and took him to Babylon. 12 When he was in distress, he sought the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors. 13 He prayed to Him, and the LORD was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea. He brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
  • Ps 73:5-9 : 5 They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills. 6 Therefore, pride is their necklace; violence clothes them like a garment. 7 Their eyes bulge from fatness; their imaginations overflow with malice. 8 They scoff and speak with malice; with arrogance, they threaten oppression. 9 They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongues strut through the earth. 10 Therefore His people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. 11 They say, 'How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?' 12 Behold, these are the wicked—always carefree, they increase in wealth. 13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and washed my hands in innocence. 14 For I am stricken all day long and chastened every morning. 15 If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed Your children. 16 When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply. 17 Until I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood their final destiny. 18 Surely, You place them on slippery ground; You cast them down to destruction. 19 How suddenly they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors! 20 Like a dream when one awakes, so, Lord, when You arise, You will despise their image. 21 When my heart was embittered and my spirit was pierced within me, 22 I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You. 23 Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. 27 Those who are far from You will perish; You destroy all who are unfaithful to You. 28 But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.
  • Hos 2:6-7 : 6 I will not show mercy to her children, for they are the children of unfaithfulness. 7 Their mother has been unfaithful; their conceiver acted shamefully. She said, 'I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread, water, wool, flax, oil, and drink.'
  • Hos 5:15-6:1 : 15 I will return to my place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face; in their distress they will earnestly seek me. 1 Come, let us return to the LORD. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has struck us down, but He will bind us up.
  • Heb 12:5-9 : 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: "My son, do not take lightly the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when you are reproved by Him." 6 For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He chastises every son He accepts. 7 If you endure discipline, God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 Our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few days as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
  • Rev 3:10 : 10 Because you have kept my command to endure, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is coming upon the whole world to test those who dwell on the earth.
